Style advice for a new mum

I gave birth to my dd a month ago and still have a way to go to fit into my pre-pregnancy clothes but wearing my wardrobe of late pregnancy clothes - joggers and wrap tops is depressing me. I had a tough couple of weeks emotionally after the birth but am slowly feeling better - hence wanting to take more pride in my appearance.

I hope to be fitting into many of my old clothes in about 2-3 months but need a capsule wardrobe to get me there. I am breastfeeding though which limits my options.

Can anyone recommend the basics to buy to get me through. Happy to spend a few hundred pounds. I'm a 14/16 at the moment and 5'3"

Thanks in advance

I gave birth 3 weeks ago, and know just how you feel!

I have bought 3 pairs of jeans-
One pair light blue boyfriend jeans
One pair mid blue supersoft skinny jeans (new look, v comfy)
One pair of jazzy dark blue patterned jeggings

Then I have focused on nice tops. I got 6 from Dorothy perkins, when they were doing a 25% off offer. Things like a broderie anglaise cotton camisole and a lemon yellow lace t-shirt. With all these I can just pop a cheap strappy vest underneath for breastfeeding, but they look stylish and summery.

I'm also on the lookout for a couple of easy summery skirts that I can team with my tops on hot days.

If you want specific nursing tops, have a look at the brand 'boob', they're pricey but look really nice. I'm tempted by a breton stripe dress

I found jeggings really comfortable for that in between stage, particularly when I didn't want to spend loads on new jeans that I was hoping wouldn't fit me after I lost the weight/toned up. They were also really nice and stretchy and I could 'tuck' my tum into them!

Agree that new look super soft skinnys are great too. IMO better than Topshop Leighs.

How about a nice shirt? My neighbour (newish mum) wears a few. She does checked but if you're braver you could go smarter oasis have nice ones. What about tube skirt (sucks you in) try primark etc then layer over.

Also maxi dresses (for BBQ etc) could work with straps.

I'm the same height and size as you and agree re: jeggings. I bought a pair in Dorothy Perkins, I think they are called Eden. They are super soft and stretchy, with back pockets to look like skinny jeans, but no button/fly at the front to add bulk. They come in lots of different shades/colours.

Jojo Maman Bebe do a fab range of feeding tops/dresses too - which would still look good if you lose weight, so good value for money.

I tended to opt for things that would still be ok if I lost weight, so they weren't a waste of money, like jersey dresses, yoga pants, cardigans, and shoes/bags to update my wardrobe.

Raisin I totally felt the same at that stage

I bought a few pairs of harem type trousers (light and stretchy but they were not wide or too baggy) I got them in a local shop but I think next and H&m are good

Then I wore black or navy tops and pretty cardis and shoes

New look also have lace wedges that are really dressy. I also wore a nice bracelet and got a good haircut.

Also agree with loose floaty shirts, I got one recently in monsoon - bird print white shirt and a navy Breton oversized top in next that I lived in

Hi, same boat here as had a baby on 30th April.

Am 5ft2 and size 16 at the moment. Was not slim to start with and not striving for that, but also looking to ditch the mat clothes and cheer up my wardrobe. I bought some nice jeans from the mantaray range at debenhams (they do shorter length) and am doing the nice tops over long vest thing. Sounds obvious but I feel so much better if I blow dry my hair, put some make up on. Accessories our great too, nice hair clips, scarves (thin summery ones).

Goldie, do DP do those jeggins in a shorter length?
