My itchy legs are driving me nuts

I had them waxed 3 days ago. The red spots are so itchy despite Piriton and hydrocortisone cream. I ended up laying cold, wet flannels on them and getting a wet bed last night.
I wonder if I'm allergic to the process of waxing?
Please tell me I'm not alone?

Hmm... maybe allergic to the specific wax the salon used? It might be worth calling up and asking what brand it was and then having a google around to see if other people found the same thing... In the mean time, have you tried calamine lotion? Aloe vera gel? Both are pretty soothing. Also, maybe try a different antihistamine - Benadryl perhaps- as different types work differently. Hope that helps! xxx

Try straining oatmeal through a Popsock into your bath ( let it go under running water.)

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 26/05/2014 11:32

Aveeno moisturiser, with oatmeal, is good.

Thanks all. I'm still on the Piriton & hydrocortisone 5 days later so it's definitely an allergy. I've been having it done for years at the same salon. I had it before but went swimming afterwards & put it down to the that.
I wonder if I'm allergic somehow to the process of waxing? As well as itchy my skin feels prickly.

It could be folliculitis (not sure of the sp), I got it with I went to a salon that used roll on wax, perhaps the swimming could have caused the same thing?

Orangeanddemons · 26/05/2014 18:23

I wonder if its the swimming. I'm allergic to chlorine, and wonder if it reacted against where you were waxed.

middleagedspread · 26/05/2014 18:29

Would folliculitis cause itching? I thought it was an infection.
I've got my porridge oats out for tonight, will report back for future itchy leg sufferers once I've cleaned the bath.
Thanks for the comments, I'm not a hypochondriac, promise.

I get exactly the same reaction from waxing. Have tried many times at different places, different types of wax. Always the same result - red itchy legs and it only stops once the hair regrowth starts and hairs break through. Have totally given up on waxing now.

middleagedspread · 26/05/2014 21:22

Reporting back. The porridge oats have definitely soothed it, so worth a shot for anyone in the same situation.
I've ordered some Aveeno oat cream.
Peek, it's odd isn't it? I can feel the hairs coming through, all prickly.

Calamine lotion from the chemist will help with the itching & has antibacterial properties aswell.

peekaboo1 · 26/05/2014 22:44

Middleagedspread, it sounds like we have the same reaction to waxing. It's so strange, and v annoying. Not sure if its the wax or the irritation to the follicles and the regrowth kicking off that makes it itch. Tried sugaring too and same thing.

PeppermintInfusion · 27/05/2014 10:53

When I had it, it caused itchy skin and pimple-like spots. If it's just itchiness you have then it's not that, though chlorine could have irritated it

middleagedspread · 27/05/2014 17:52

I've been to the GP after so many sleepless nights and DH complained when the home made ice packed melted all over the bed
It's an acute allergic reaction, I've been prescribed strong oral anti histamines and bought EuraxHC cream.
Not sure if I'll risk waxing again.
