Product build up after a Brazillian blow dry

I've been using the Keratin Brazillian product available from Amazon for a year or so now, but recently had horrendous product build up. Have stopped using all products with silicon which helped a little, then resorted to Fairy liquid to remove residual build up. Strangely this didn't seem to remove the Brazillian blow dry although I'm sure it must have sodium chloride in it.

Just wondering if anyone has had the product build up issue? Any shampoo and conditioner recommendations? Many thanks Smile

I've been using it for over a year now and think I'm going to stop using it. Mainly for health reasons, but also, my hair is much more greasy than it was. Is that what you mean by product build up?

boobashka · 22/05/2014 17:56

Yes - greasy, lank, even straight after washing. Yuk!

Not had this before, so wondered if it was the silicon interacting with the Brazilian blow dry.

What are the health reasons for giving up breakingpoint?

Well I used keratin kits shampoo and conditioner and that was the best for getting a lather and making my hair feel clean initially. However, my hair would feel greasy the next day with any shampoo. Before I would get away with at least 3 days before needing to wash. In the beginning I didn't mind because the amount of time I saved, styling time wise, made it worth it.

But..... I've always felt that it wasn't really good for me, as my eyes would stream, my throat would burn when I breathed it in and I would feel quite sick. Because it was formaldehyde free, I assumed it was safe. I've since read that actually the chemical they use in its place has the same affect on the body when heat activated, as formaldehyde

Don't want to scare other

Sorry, hadn't finished

I don't want to scaremonger, but this is just what I've read and given just how pungent it is, I've decided to take notice.

Hmm - not sure it's worth it timewise if I'm having to wash everyday, even if the styling is quicker. It just looks so lank and rank!

I'd be prepared to put the health worries to one side for my vanity Blush if it didn't make my hair so greasy. Hmmm not sure what to do now. Have just purchased another pack and was going to do the treatment tonight... Confused

Well it's completely up to you. At least you'll get rid of the current build up when you use the clarifying shampoo beforehand.

How often are you using the treatment?

boobashka · 22/05/2014 18:55

Every couple of months I suppose. Thought it was the answer to all my prayers at first...

But lank greasy hair is almost worse than a frizz bomb Shock

Yeah, I think I'd agree. I think a bit of frizz is more acceptable than grease.

Why don't you just use the clarifying shampoo and then a deep conditioner. You might be surprised. Assuming you've been using less heat on your hair since you've been doing the treatment, so it might look much healthier than it did previously.

breakingpoint30 · 22/05/2014 19:46

The clarifying shampoo should instantly get rid of a lot of the build up, so it shouldn't get greasy with an intense conditioner.

boobashka · 22/05/2014 19:57

And then do another Brazilian treatment...?

Not sure if I'm ready to be Mrs FrizzBomb 2014 again!!! Grin

Thanks for your advice breakingpoint!

No Grin don't do it again.

You'll probably be less frizzy now anyway.
