I hate the summer. I have lymphodoema in my legs and 2 days without support stockings means I'm in thick leggings, support socks and ugly flats on this roasting hot day :-( help!

I've had them on overnight which has helped but my feet are so big and throbby I felt like I couldn't do without today.

I feel like shit though - on my commute and everyone looks lovely and summery.

I'm only 35 and feel like an old lady.

The support socks are black too which isn't helping. The nurse has ordered me some flesh coloured ones.

I'm short - size 16 with massive 34h boobs so dressing for summer is already hard. I'm shoe size 6eee or if I'm lucky a 6ee (I used to be a dainty 4)

I know that in the scheme of things people have much worse problems. Sorry for moaning.

Any ideas??

OP I am neither stylish or beautiful but I am a size 16 so can sympathise.

I was out and about all weekend and did some serious people watching. I am very insecure about dressing for my figure so was on the lookout to see what similar shapes were wearing.

The coolest (and most confident) looking were wearing natural fabrics. I saw linen trousers with lovely tops and cool floaty maxi dresses. Would either of those be an option in your working environment?

I have two pairs of short arse petite length linen trousers, one from M&S and one from George at Asda. Unfortunately I haven't found a maxi that doesn't make me look like a Dalek. Grin

No advice just sympathy, DM has lymphodema and the support stockings are horribly hot.

BobPatandIgglePiggle · 19/05/2014 08:45

Thanks wooly I was people watching on the train too!

I have some (too baggy) linen pants so could invest in some more - the perfect maxi is a dream away I think. I've tried on a million (and won't be able to try any more without feeling like a dalek now!)

Thanks for cheering me up a little. I'm hiding at the back of the office in my nana support stockings sweating profusely in my leggings!

Can you do palazzo pants in a cool floaty fabric?

Cocolepew · 19/05/2014 22:11

I have 7/8ths linen, slim leg trousers from La Redoute, they are the correct length on me rather than ankle skimmers.
They are incredibly light, they would cover your stockings but aren't so heavy as to make you hotter.

I wear then with white Converse and look lovely

Cocolepew · 19/05/2014 22:13

this is them

florencedombey · 19/05/2014 22:32

I had to wear them three summers running due to a DVT - I feel your pain OP !

The flesh coloured ones are easier to hide. I got some open toed ones which meant I could wear sandals. If your toes are on display (with varnished nails!) I think it distracts the eye from the stockings a bit. For work, I wore floppy linen trousers in navy or stone with a fitted blouse on top. I also bought a couple of long skirts which I wore with a fitted top and jacket. Only my ankles were on show and most people didn't spot the stockings.

Hope this helps a bit.

Linen or light Cotton maxi skirts

I know how you feel. I have lymphodoema in both legs and this makes the Summer unbearable. This week I have tried Epsom Salt bath which I think had some effect. I also have massage boots by Cleo which I have used for the past two nights and they appear to have helped. That said by the end of the day my feet and legs are heavy, painful and make me feel miserable and old. I am currently looking at the possibility of manual lymphatic drainage as I am desperate. Like you I find the Summer clothes choice difficult. Anything short draws attention to my legs. Even cut off trousers draws your eye down to a swollen ankle. I stick with Jeans even when hot, or next Linen trousers. Maxi dresses or skirts hide everything with good effect.

I have had my flip flops on for the past hour and they are already leaving an indent. Don't think its going to be a good day. Everything I do makes a little difference but I would kill to have slim legs and feet.
