Special occasion coming up in a few weeks and i really want my face to look as if it actually has make up on. I always think i am doing it well enough and then i see photos and it looks like a bare face Hmm

Could anyone recommend any tutorials and/or websites to take a look at for quite a heavy glamourous make up look please?

Maybe somewhere near you does airbrush makeup if you want to fork out for a MUA? I also hear good things about Makeup Forever HD foundation when it comes to photography. Whatever foundation you choose, avoid SPF or you will look like a ghost.

Thanks for the SPF tip- i didnt know that. I am very skint at the minute- it's my ds who is having the special occasion and it has already cost me a fortune so have nothing left even to get my hair done so make up will be whatever i have here or can borrow from my sister.

Also, use primer. My fave tutorials for dramatic looks are by Chrisspy on Youtube.

No worries if you can't afford someone to do it for you- youve got ages to practice anyway :) x

Look on Lisa Eldridge's website. Loads on there. I'd especially pay attention to the wedding and red carpet ones.

SPF is fine for day wear (and advisable, of course) but when it comes to photos it can be reflective and not very flattering... i learnt the hard way on a night out a while back. I thought I looked sunkissed after days of gradual tanning, but I looked like Lily Munster in the photos Blush

Grin hakuna. Thanks for video and website recommendations.

Would SPF foundation be ok for day time photographs?

I'm sure it is- it's the flash photography that causes the white mask look as SPF deflects light. I think daylight is fine as it natural and nowhere near as bright.

GossMakeupArtist and OR Pixiwoo.

Both excellent, both have FAB tutorials on everything from foundation to usual makeup for fancy dress parties etc.

It is in fact the flash reflecting off of the SPF that gives the white glow,

Whitershadeofpale · 18/05/2014 20:14

As well as SPF look out for anything illuminating or light reflecting as the particles do the same. This is why sometimes you see celebs with the reverse panda look, they probably look fine in real life but the flash reflects off of their undereye concealer (especially touché éclat), beauty flash balm does the same and gives you a white cast.

thank you all this is all good to know.

Why don't you do your makeup & wait til it's dark & get someone to take photos using the flash?
Then study them to see where more makeup is needed!
