Best thing for damaged hair?

My hair is damaged, although it only seems to be on the left hand side, bits are breaking off and its obvious that the right hand side is longer, I'm getting stressed about it which probably isn't helping.

My hairdresser advised me to use some sort of oil on my hair and not use straighteners as often.

I'm using a split end serum, shampoo with oil in and taking vitamins especially for hair and nails but i cant see any improvement yet.

Has anybody else had damaged hair and managed to sort it out? How long did it take to get better and what did you use?

Hairdresser also warned it could be anything from diet to medication, I'm just stressing about it, my hair is usually half way down my back, now at the shortest side its just below my shoulders.

Fewer, milder products. Wash less often. No straighteners for a while.

I agree with the Big Hair (or natural drying) definitely NO to GHDs!

I also noticed a difference when I used a blow drying heat protection spray and masks.

and trims help.

SuperFlyHigh · 20/05/2014 14:46

In fact generally GHDs are awful for your hair as the heat is intense and if you have weak hair you're just killing it. add on colour/highlights etc and the hair will be very very weak.

My hair is bleached but now the bleach only goes on my roots, the only thing that goes on the rest of my hair is a toner.

Ive noticed over the last couple of days that the top layer of hair is breaking off now and i have some very short hair on the top.

I'm gutted. Have avoided straightening this week.

Vito, that's what I used to have. Now I have foils but am aiming to get my hair food enough to have bleach directly to scalp again. My hairdresser recommends a spray. I'm going on Sunday. I'll get the name for you.

A lot of my hair fell out with it but I blamed pregnancy...

I have been using vaseline/petroleum jelly instead of my Organix hair oil.

I use the petroleum jelly on my nails and one day I was distracted and touched my hair and slid my fingers down a length.

I thought I'd have to go and wash it out but no, my hair was silky and shiny. I applied more and was amazed at how great it made my hair look and feel.

I must stress that only a tiny amount is needed. It doesn't make hair greasy, it kind of smooths it and makes it feel very silky as opposed to it being brittle as I had previously bleached my hair from black to almost white and then coloured it three times in a fortnight to get it to a brown colour!

I do not apply it within three or four inches of my scald, I only apply if to the last eight inches of my hair. It feels so nice.

I had the same issue before my hair is damaged and frizzy cause of bleaching and straighteners .my hairdresser advised to take Niveau Labs krill oil and flaxseed oil, and I am taking it for a year now. I am so amazed how it made my hair back to life again.

BunnyDog · 26/07/2017 21:27

Coconut oil is amazing, it seems to soak in in a way that other oils don't, and protects your hair when you wash it so the shampoo doesn't strip at all. Also don't wash your hair as often. I have longer hair so if I just ponytail for a few weeks and I go without heat tools this transforms the condition of my hair to get it back to a good state.

MyfatheristheKing · 26/07/2017 21:33

Ditch straighteners and if you can the hair dryer too. If you need to use the hair dryer switch the heat down, will take a little longer to dry.

Do you have any wave or curl to your hair? I've just started the curly girl method as totally sick of spending so long straightening my hair for it to have a wave 30 minutes later! My hair is dry and in bad condition from heat, highlighting and all the sulfates in shampoo! I can see bits that are shorter so I think they have snapped off or it's new hair growing in.
