Those nappy overhang dresses

Those longer at the back than at the front dresses - can they be taken in to make them align properly? Or would this be too difficult? It'd be by hand as I don't have a seeing machine.

would you not take it up to make it align?

taking it in would just make it tighter, surely.

Is that what it's called? You're right, that's what I meant. Make it uniform. I've seen a couple of nice ones on the Promod website. I've not used that before so I don't know what the quality is like, the fabrics don't sound great but I'd only use once or twice.

I don't see why not but I'm with you I don't like that design, reminds me of back to front maternity wear!

Apologies, i forgot to come back to you!

anyway, yes if you wanted to even the back up to match the front i'd reccomend cutting some of the excess first so that you can fold a smaller amount of material up and create a hem, if you see what i mean? it would certainly work if you had the patience to handstitch.

alternatively if you were buying two or three a dressmaker could make the alteration for you and it would probably be under a tenner all in.

Yes, you certainly could. I bought a top from a charity shop recently that had a dreadful dippy hem at the back, and I adjusted it so the dip was much smaller (I could have made it straight but preferred to keep a slight dip).

Suggest you unpick the hem for an inch or so either side of the side seam so you can "blend" in the newly trimmed back section with the front.

I did it with a dress. I kept the dress in tact in case I regretted the change, it just made a nice band in the back bottom hem and as I brought it up the front hem length I didn't have to go all the way around.

Thank you all for the replies and for providing the correct term. Dippy hem sounds right. I'll keep my options open. I've seen a few nice dresses and provided the front is long enough I might take a chance.
