Hoody - what do the brands say?

Chocolategirl7 · 17/05/2014 08:23

I'm after a cosy hoody to wear with jeans / cut offs / shorts - for days at the beach when you just need something a little warmer! The other weekend I saw a girl wearing a lovely pink Jack Wills one, but as a 43 year old ( but who looks older) I'm not sure if I can really wear that brand - isn't it for teens?

I feel a little out of touch with some of the brands these days - and don't want to look like I'm trying too hard.

Would really welcome your thoughts and comments please.

Joules normally have some nice ones?

dexter73 · 17/05/2014 08:30

I don't really like wearing anything with obvious branding on it so I would look for a plain one.

CMP69 · 17/05/2014 08:36

I am 45 and bought this a few weeks ago. Lots of people have commented on it Smile

NorbertDentressangle · 17/05/2014 08:39

There are lots out there without brands emblazoned on them.

I have a plain navy Fat Face one that's lined with a small floral print fabric for example. Only 'branding' is a small tag on the ribbing on the bottom.

SanityClause · 17/05/2014 08:49

Why can't you wear a Jack Wills hoody, if you like it? It's for the beach!

I am with others who don't like to wear branded clothing (why should I advertise their brand for them?) although I'm okay with a small logo, as actually, it's a it difficult to avoid buying sports/leisure type clothing without some kind of branding.

But that's my preference. If you want to wear a hoody with Abercrombie and Fitch blazoned across it, do it! Don't worry about what others may think is or isn't appropriate for a "woman of your age". Chances are, no one is thinking anything of the sort.

SanityClause · 17/05/2014 08:54

This is very pretty, although a bit pricy.

Youdontneedacriminallawyer · 17/05/2014 08:59

Personally, I wouldn't wear anything branded. I refuse to give free advertising to firms by walking round like a billboard.

AuntieBrenda · 17/05/2014 09:03

Boden do nice colourful or patterned ones. For cheap and cheerful, you could get one in new look for about £15

Nocomet · 17/05/2014 09:20

This houses conclusion, with three hoddie wearing females, is - branded ones are warmer and good in winter. Next ones make great summer cardigans for the sort of stuff you want, as does my ancient unbranded Gap one.

Sainsbury's are always worth a look, there clothes are surprisingly good.

On the beaches of Devon and Cornwall (and probably everywhere else too but I've def seen loads in the SW) you see a lot of women in their 40s wearing surfy brands like Animal, Roxy, Quiksilver etc so you wouldn't stand out with one like that

Nocomet · 17/05/2014 17:01

My toasty warm one is animal and I'm over 40, DD1's is too and she was 14 when she got it.

Younger DD lives in a Superdry one. I think 40 is too old for bright pink branding all down your arm Grin

revolutionarytoad · 17/05/2014 17:15

American Apparel do plain hoodies and jackets, there seem to be quite a few on ebay.

Jack Wills hoodies feel very claustrophobic to me!

CointreauVersial · 17/05/2014 17:19

I have a Gul hoody for beach purposes - it's dark grey with pink stitching on the front, saying "Gul 1967". I particularly like it because that's the year I was born (so that makes me 47).Smile I probably wouldn't wear it down the high street, but it's perfect as a cover-up.

I agree some brands are a little "young". I probably would leave Hollister and JW to my 13yo nieces.

Skivvywoman · 17/05/2014 17:26

I love jack wills hoodies I don't own I borrow my 2 boys onesWink

MagnaCharge · 17/05/2014 17:29

I am 30 and all of mine are Hollister and aeropostale. I don't care that I am not in their demograph - they fit me.

Floisme · 17/05/2014 17:53

Please get the Jack Wills one if you like it. If some people don't think it's appropriate then that is their problem, not yours.

aoife24 · 17/05/2014 19:51

Muji do some for £29

I have a Crew clothing one - 2nd hand from eBay, very tiny self coloured logo -which is extremely soft and a good thickness. Would define replace with the same if I lost it. Excellent quality too.

BikeRunSki · 17/05/2014 20:05

The higher cotton content ones (80% +) I find are nicer against skin in the summer and wash better.

Ilovemydogandmydoglovesme · 17/05/2014 20:15

Joules always do nice sweatshirts. Or Sea Salt are lovely.

Ilovemydogandmydoglovesme · 17/05/2014 20:16

Oh yes Crew Clothing are always fairly reliable.

Fairylea · 17/05/2014 20:18

Asos do plain ones for £20 in a range of colours and the quality is very nice.

I second sea salt as well. Lovely quality.

samsam123 · 17/05/2014 21:12

I bought two for one from Ebay last week don't really care about branding as long as price and quality is good mine are from 'bench'

Chocolategirl7 · 18/05/2014 08:31

Some great suggestions thank you all. Some nice ones on the crew website too so lots of choice. I want to spend a little more to get a really long lasting cosy one so it's good to know there are lots of options. X
