Using henna...?

Has anyone ever used henna to colour their hair?

Currently using a 'synthetic' semi-perm dye (L'Oreal Casting) every 6-8 weeks to cover roots. Last couple of times, I've really scared myself that the slight tingly feeling I get afterwards means I'm gonna wake up bald the next day.

Just can't be doing with the stress of that every time I colour my hair (too young to go grey gracefully!)

Been looking at this and wondering if I should give it a go.

Any advice from experienced henna users?

TIA

I've used the one from Body Shop before to give my hair a bit of life and shine (it was before the grey hairs started showing). It is very messy and smelly but does really help the condition of your hair. Make sure you have an old towel nearby which you don't mind staining. I have quite sensitive skin and never had an adverse reaction to this.

ive been thinking about using henna too. im having to colour my hair every 5 weeks or so and really dont like putting all those chemicals on my head. i think i might give it a try.

Know exactly what you mean. Have you looked into any brands or anything yet?

No idea what I'm looking for, really, just want to try something more 'natural'.

Don't wanna end up with illuminous orange hair though!

Let me know results if you get round to doing it - would be interested x.

yeah ok. i do have quite alot of grey coming through now and im worried about the orange look! you can get different colour henna for hair tho. like brown/black etc. when i do it, i'll let you know how i get on. im like you though, and worry that when i wash the dye off im going to get handfulls of hair coming out!

i've used a powdered one before. It is messy, and will colour grey differently, so not ideal if you've alot of grey I guess.
I stopped because I found it difficult to get hold of, and now I have chemical dye/bleach on it so would have to wait for it to gow out.

It was certainly more gentle on the hair and scalp, and looks much more natural whenn growing out, as it fades very slowly.

I've used the lush hennas on my sister and they work really well.

If you want to use henna, wait till the colours you've used before have washed out and then use it.

Have to warn you get a friend to help you first, henna will leave you with a stained bathroom if you're not carefull.

Bugger - the semis I use never actually wash out, they just fade a bit and I just get root re-growth.

Do you reckon I should steer clear, in that case?

Zoe, wish we could do it together!
