Do you have to open a credit account with them to buy something? They seem to be asking for a lot of information Confused been looking on my phone so can't see anything obvious.

I think you can also pay by credit card but they like you to have a credit account

ilovepowerhoop · 15/05/2014 08:19

it says this online:

Can I shop without a Next Directory Account?

All customers will need to register with Next to shop and must be over 18 and a U.K resident. Customers need to agree to a credit search being carried out. This credit search will NOT appear on your credit file when viewed by other lenders, unless you take the option of credit from us, or we are unable to offer you credit. It will only be visible to you and Next. You will have the option to pay using a credit or debit card during checkout.

If you choose to pay by Credit/Debit card, the card will need to match the registered address.

Applications can be accepted to a British Forces Post Office (BFPO) address.

Wow, that seems a little heavy handed compared with most other shopping websites! Don't think I'll bother then.

Thanks for finding the info for me hoop

I pay by debit card and collect in store.

StrawberryGashes · 15/05/2014 08:38

I pay by debit card online all the time and have it delivered. I've never needed a credit account with them.

kinkytoes · 15/05/2014 08:38

Which would be fine if they didn't want to carry out a credit search first, even if other lenders can't see it on my record. I've nothing to hide credit-wise but I can't see how it's relevant when I just want to spend 20 like I would on any other retailer's website.

I even hate having to register my email address with online retailers as I get fed up with all the crap in my inbox. But this really takes the Biscuit

I have never had such a drama to order clothes in my life before!!!

It's as if they don't want you to buy it they make it so hard!!!

JohnCusacksWife · 15/05/2014 16:49

Just phone them up, tell them you don't want a credit account and they'll give you a customer number that you can use to log in and then buy stuff on your debit/credit card.

LovelyWeatherForDucks · 15/05/2014 17:17

I had this problem - order by phone, they will then give you a customer number so next time you can order online.

bishboschone · 15/05/2014 17:24

Next is the easiest place to buy from . I've had an account for years . It takes seconds to check out and it all goes on an account which I pay every month . I have a fussy dd so it works brilliantly for me . I hate buying stuff and waiting for it to be refunded to my credit card . Their logistics are far and away the best online shopping . They text you when it's in or if it's late and its delivered tge next day . refunded immediately .. can't fault them. .. h and m on the other hand !!@!

GypsyFloss · 15/05/2014 21:52

The only catch with ordering online is the returns time limit is much shorter than if you buy instore, which I found out when I dithered over a pair of heels for a couple of weeks. The return limit for next directory/ online is about 8-10 days compared to 28 days if you buy directly from the shop.

VarsityQueen · 16/05/2014 08:40

I also find the difference between the store refund policy and the directory returns policy really odd, as if they are two separate companies. Especially annoying if buying a gift (and you can't have something sent in, get it put back on your account and then buy it normally to get a gift receipt). Some things are impossible to find in the stores. Have queried it both with customer services and in store. I was told they probably would refund after 8 days but as it's not written down I would be worried about trying this. Agree the next day click and collect is good though.

LightastheBreeze · 16/05/2014 08:47

I did find out quite recently, that if you haven't got a Next store near you, you can return to a 'payzone' shop which is usually a local store where people pay bills, ours is the local 9 tip 9 type place. i found this very useful as you have to pay for courier returns and nearest Next is 10 miles away.

GypsyFloss · 16/05/2014 09:46

I queried it as well and one manager said she would refund later but then another day a different one said no definitely not. Apparently Next directory is a separate business rather than just the delivery arm of Next and as they have a quick stock turnaround they need to have a short refund timeframe.

I'm off today to collect some smudge print harem pants which, going by what I've read on here, thousands of women will be wearing on flights this summer. I am like a sheepGrin

kinkytoes · 20/05/2014 19:08

I found a way! Went into a branch and asked them to order it in for me. They only needed my name and number. Sorted.

I don't have a next account and always pay by card online, but have found it difficult in the past to do it. If I remember rightly, I have to be on my proper computer, I can't order from a mobile device

lizandlulu · 21/05/2014 08:06

And re the returns, it's odd.

I had a pair of linen trousers, ordered online but decided 3 months later I wouldn't wear them and wanted to try and return them, I know I was being cheeky, but I'm sure they can stand the £19! Anyway I rang up nd explained I had them, wanted to return but was thatching ago I had chucked the paperwork. She reluctantly said yes they could be returned this once. So then went to the next shop and explained the whole situation and she said oh don't worry, as long as its got tags on and not been in the sale, we can usually just refund straight away.

Seems to be conflicting advice
