DS and shaving rash

Ds started shaving a couple of months ago. DH showed him the right way to use the razor and he applied some Nivea cooling moisturizer afterwards. We noticed that he is getting a terrible shaving rash so we bought him a Braun wet/dry battery razor to use instead thinking the razor is a bit harsh. Its no different with the battery razor. Its definitely a rash and not acne. He has tried using a teen range moisturizer afterwards instead of the Nivea one but its made no difference either. I feel so for him, his skin isn't bad at all spot wise, but his skin is looking terrible right now.

Anyone got an tips on what he could try please?

www.naturisimo.com/searchresults.cfm

How about using some products that are chemical free. Skin is so sensitive.

Look on www.mypure.co.uk too

Have you tried cutting out the moisturiser entirely?

DH cannot use any products. Everything we have ever bought gives him a rash.

His skin is much better with no products apart from shaving gel.

DH uses an exfoliating face wash after shaving and a sensitive moisturiser.

I know its different but i used to get really bad shaving rash on my legs. I started using skin doctors from boots, I can't remember its name but its to use after shaving. It was brilliant I had to use it every time at first but now only need it every so often. It stings like hell for a minute but its worth it for the results.

Thanks all. I went to the chemist today and she suggested an exfoliator but at the time I thought that it would do more harm than good so I didn't get it. Now I see Crazykat has suggested it too, so maybe we should give it a try. I think he should just use nothing on his face for a while like pasta suggests and see if it starts to clear or not. He is home from school now and they are starting to weep a bit, so not a good sign.

King of Shaves razor and their shaving gel for sensitive skin -the ONLY thing that works for dh and my legs

They are expensive but often on sale so you can stock pile.

I wouldn't put moisturisers straight on after shaving whatever you used would irritate sensitive skin - leave it at least a couple of hours if not longer.

I certainly wouldn't be exfoliating as his skin will already be aggravated and that will make it worse. If some of the spots are a bit weepy/blistery looking they could be a bit infected (folliculitis) and maybe need antibiotics.

MedusaIsHavingaBadHairday · 14/05/2014 21:39

He might need antibiotics for weepy skin..sounds infected. But after that..lay off the products.I suspect the GP will tell him not to put any products on his face!

I have two shaving sons and neither of them have ever exfoliated, or moisturised..it would never have ocurred to them (or me either). As it's obviously irritating his skin, I would suggest leaving it alone!!!

Also, unless he is exceptionally hairy surely he can get away with a once a week, or twice a week shave at this stage. My 17 yr old now needs to shave a few times a week and 21 yr old has to shave every day (but doesn't!)

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 14/05/2014 21:42

Has he tried good old sudocreme on the rash?

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 14/05/2014 21:43

Another vote for no exfoliating!
