Can I 'learn' to walk in heels & if so, how please?

Ok so I'm going on hols in 2 weeks & just ordered some lovely shoes but with 3 inch heels. I can't walk in heels & have lots of pairs at home that are rarely worn.

Can I learn to do it? I have wedges, platforms & sturdy heels!in various heights, (I'm a 'sturdy' girl so I know that won't make it easier to learn:()

I don't want to wear them all day, just for a few hours at night (until I get too drunk to be safe in them)

Thanks all

Practice walking in them for 15 mins every night before you go.

I balance on the balls of my feet & put them down first before my heels, or at the same time as my heels.

People probably have different techniques...

Yup I agree, practise in them everyday. I taught myself to walk in heels at uni. Literally walking around the flat til I felt confident.

Ah I thought you weren't supposed to balance on the balls but this is what feels normal to me in heels. Ok from now on it's 15 mins of housework in heels of an evening! Does it matter what kind of heel, or if I crack one pair will that open open all the others?

How exciting!

Take your new shoes to a supermarket and put them on just before you go in & after you've grabbed yourself a trolley to hang onto. Then waft up and down the aisles practising confident walking in your new heels but with the 'safety harness' of the trolley to stop you going arse over tit. It worked for me!

I have the same problem.

People have said it might be because my feet are so small and boobs so big it makes me off balance Grin

Suppose a size 3 doesn't offer much surface area to walk in. Wonder if there's any evidence to that?

I am reading with interest! I've got gorgeous expensive heels but just can't wear them. I once went on a night out away from home, had a £200 pair of shoes on. Walking around was a nightmare and I felt like crying because I couldn't keep up with everyone so I found the only shoe shop open at that time and bought the cheapest pair of shoes which were £65! They were awful too, I ended up giving them to MIL after I'd worn them out that night.

I had tiny feet and big boobs and took to high heels like a duck to water as a teen. I don't remember having to 'learn'. They must fit well. No one can walk well in high heels when they slip off your heel all the time.

Once you put them on, shoulders back and lead with your hip bones. Too many people lean forward and stick their bums out.

TequilaMockingbirdy · 14/05/2014 00:37

Mine don't fit off, and I walk perfectly straight (in fact I used to get picked on at school for it because apparently I was tryin to be posh because I didn't walk with a bloody stooped back like they did)

I'm jealous of those who can walk straight away Envy I just feel like I'm going to topple over. Then I do.

I'm going to lash my heels on eBay. I have quite a collection from when there were 'better days' financially and only ever worn them once

Great ideas-like the supermarket one-just need to make sure nobody sees me!. Tequila-hang fire on eBay in case we all learn in a few days & want to bid on your nice heels ;)

I will start this eve-I have big boobs & big feet & big everything else so don't know how that will fare.....

Just be aware that the ball of your foot does get sore - more so that wearing low heels as all the pressure is there rather than on the whole foot IYSWIM.

A gel cushion may help!
