Keratosis pilaris - best way to get rid? Also body foundation recommendations?

I have a 'lovely' combo on my legs of pale skin, keratosis pilaris (red bumps) & visible veins.

Got a function in a month and my dress is just below the knee & the type of shoes I'm wearing means bare legs - argh!

What's the best way to improve/get rid of the keratosis pilaris? What's worked for you?

Also, a recommendation for a decent body foundation to cover up the veins (Sally hansen legs is rubbish as it's just a bit too dark for me)

Go gluten free - I have read ko is an autoimmune reaction. I don't have it so can't say from experience. But going gluten free has cleared up my flakey scalp. If it's worse around your period, try drinking peppermint tea twice a day to regulate your hormones a bit better.

I've had hundreds of nasty, rough tiny red bumps on my upper arms which I've thought were keratosis pilaris though have never been diagnosed as such.

I've got rid of them by daily buffing either with a body brush or with one of those cheapo synthetic massage sponges from Boots, with a bit of soap or shower gel to lather it up and help it slide over the skin. Followed that with Ren Wild Yam body cream which claims to firm and smooth skin. The arm skin is really smooth now but I do this (almost) every day and have done for a couple of months. Disclaimer - I could well have not had KP so can't say if it would really work for you Sad

The leg covering thing, are you wearing sandals? If it were me, I would wear nude micronets which look fine with sandals but I accept that might not be to everyone's taste.

I second body buffing and moisturiser. Also you can buy open toe tights to wear with sandals.

I have KP too, I have never directly tried to tackle it (didn't even know it was a 'thing' until recently) but it is slowly improving as I've improved my diet - mainly less processed food, less white carbs and less refined sugar.

I've also heard that it may be something to do with vitamin A, and that something called salicylic (sp?) acid might help too?

Palmers cocoa butter with AHAs is really effective.

MAC do a face and body makeup in a good range of shades.

maybemyrtle · 12/05/2014 14:27

YY Palmers AHA/BHA moisturiser is brilliant stuff. Also exfoliating in the shower every day and sunlight - mine always disappears as the summer progresses. Never noticed any dietary impact though - interesting!

fruitpastille · 12/05/2014 14:35

There was a thead about this yonks ago. Cracked heel balm was highly recommended.

MyrtleDove · 12/05/2014 14:46

I have KP and Boots Botanics sugar scrub is great for tackling it!

Also sunshine is good for it so please get your legs out.

Ilovecoodomol · 12/05/2014 15:01

Mac have a body foundation, I used it years ago for a photo shoot but I don't do makeup anymore professionally so can't vouch for it now, they may have changed the formulation. It was a great product, specially formulated for the body and if I remember right it was waterproof as well.

oliviafrombolivia · 12/05/2014 16:39

the stuff that is in the flexitol cracked heel balm urea(?) is very good for this.. have had mild version of this, also disappears when on sunny holidays..

Here's the kp thread

youcancallmeEl · 12/05/2014 19:45

KP can be due to essential fatty-acid deficiency. Taking Omega 3 supplements may help.

Skullduggeryfizz · 13/05/2014 20:36

Lush do something called buffy which is a great body scrub that I use on the tops of my arms and legs while in the shower, then I use La Roche-Posay Iso-Urea Smoothing, Moisturising & Anti-Roughness Body Milk. I've been using this combination for the last couple of months and the tops of my arms and legs are so much better.

LoadsaBlusher · 13/05/2014 21:00

For a great cover up - Veil Cover Cream - total coverage of many skin conditions
I currently use it for extremely bad pigmentation/melasma patches

NotScroogeMcDuck · 13/05/2014 21:06

Flexitol. Amaaaaaazing.

Brill, thanks for all your suggestions!

Definitely going to check them all out & choose something.
