Background:
vegetarian non smoker /non drinker
Recently found out I have a gallstone and cholesterol a bit high so I've cut down on dairy (cheese) and crisps.

But my stomach is very congested and my waist is far too big (which increases my risk of diabetes especially with my age and 2 parents diabetic)

I want to shift my middle. But if I cut out carbohydrates (so no bread, pasta, potatoes) I can't do this long term.

Could I do a short period of veg, fruit, eggs, milk, (is rice ok?)
Already drink lots of water due to hot flushes.
I want to shift some weight before summer, before my gallbladder gets sorted and before I think "Oh I'll cope with it, buy bigger clothes"

I need to step up excercise I know but TBH, with work (P/T) and the broken sleep, I'm too lazy knackered Hmm

Any ideas ?

I've decided against LC, it would be a complete turnaround for me dietwise and , yes, I do need to keep a lowfat diet ( I haven't noticed any flare up if eat fat but I don;t want to antagonise the stone )

I can't not eat fruit or bread, so this won't work for me (or the butter, bleurgh)

I nee to get off my behind and do some gentle excercise for now, and cut out the liquorice Wink

If you still have your gallstone, i.e. you haven't had your gall bladder out, a diet high in fat might be problematic for you, as the gall bladder contracts to squeeze bile into the duodenum (ileum??) once fat reaches it and whatever hormone it is that gets produced in the presence of fat is produced. If you have a gallstone, this could be quite painful. Take it easy!

Ah. X-post Grin.

I didn't eat anything with more than 3% fat while I had gall stones. The weight dropped off me - anything to avoid the pain - and I ended up a small size 8, which is really too small for me.

Anyway, things like bagels, crumpets are usually low fat. I ate a 'normal' diet, just a low fat version. So lots of potatoes, veg, pasta, rice etc. The absolute opposite of low-carbingGrin It's probably not great long term, but it definitely had a good effect on the amount of pain I experienced.
