Can you treat large pores and dry skin simultaneously?

Moan alert. My skin is unbelievably dry, but gets congested and bumpy too - and my pores are huge.

All pore treatment things dry skin out too much, but things for dry skin no good for big pores. Tried Clinique turnaround facial last night, skin looks the same but more angry (have lots of red bumps/veins etc anyway).

So, can I treat both? And what do you recommend? Currently hot cloth cleansing, clinique toner, either Estee or L'oreal serum then avene anti redness day cream/clinique DDML+ and Clinique rescue something or other at night

Or - should I just continue on my quest for the perfect foundation to disguise the above?

The oil cleansing method has done wonders for me. I have a tendency towards dry skin but also acne. My skin is much calmer now. Expect a purging to begin with!

Really - I just found it dried my skin out more, as weirdly does oil, as I think it's probably dehydrated so needs the moisture more than it needs oil IYGWIM?

I had a facial but the therapist was really no good, only could advise me on dermalogica which turns out I'm allergic to. How can I get impartial skincare advice?

I also got tons of really sore spots around my jawline that hurt to open my mouth, so stopped. Think maybe I have to try again

What oils did you use? Some oils can have that effect. I use a mix of avocado oil and castor oil, but only about a quarter castor oil (it can dry out your skin). I finish off with coconut oil for the spots - mind, coconut oil can dry out the skin for some people. Avocado oil can work very well for dry skin.

Yes, I see what you mean with your skin needing moisture, not oil, but I don't think it works like that ;) Oils will balance your skin, at least that is the theory, but you have to find a combination of oils that works for you. Almond oil and jojoba oil might work.

I had a couple of goes with the oil cleansing method, as it freaked me out when my skin was purging, so I went back to creams. But eventually I got there and I am never going back. Might add that I also went Paleo, which helped, I am sure I have soe sort of grains intolerance.

interesting you saying about your diet as I've figured wine wrecks my skin (not vain enough to stop drinking it thoughWink )

Really appreciate your helpful reply

Wine could be wrecking your skin ;) I am actually not drinking at the moment, and I haven't given it much thought, but I haven't had a flare up for as long as I have been off alcohol. I don't even miss it much!

I am definitely coming to the conclusion that diet has a massive effect on my skin. I wish I had known when I was a teenager, I am 41 now :(
