Why is my skin so relentlessly shit?

I'm 33 FFS. I currently have 2 horrible spots you can see from space, but it seems to have been a never ending cycle of them recently.

What are my options? Can the GP wave a magic wand?

Do you wear make up, op?

Perhaps you are doing too much to your skin?

I suffer with mild hormonal acne too. I have started using cold cream every night, I leave it on for about half hour for a deep cleanse. I also use the Roche Possay, face wash, toner and effaclar duo, it is not horrendously priced and lasts quite a while. Last month I started taking fish oil and zinc supplements and I really think they are helping but I don't know which one is more beneficial. I have just started my period and have less spots this month than I would usually and any spots I had are healing a lot quicker.

coffeeinbed · 09/05/2014 09:09

I had the same a few years ago and it was very unpleasant.
GP gave a something called Zynerit.

It cleared it up very quickly.

It probably is hormonal though.

Am no expert, but if you suspect it might be some sort of infection, someone was raving on here about Hibiscrub a while back. Maybe do a search for the thread.

Agnus Castus supplement really helped my hormonal spots. I also get recurring boils on my cheeks. I'm currently supplementing with B6, acidophilus and turmeric and it seems to be helping. It's pretty shit to have to worry about this in my mid thirties when wrinkles are also on the way!

Second aspirin face masks. Makes a massive massive difference. And incredibly cheap. Grin

Oil cleansing method but without the castor oil. Jojoba, sweet almond or hazelnut oils. Wish I had known about this 20 years ago!

I get those hormonal spots if i eat milk, cheese, apparently they are full of hormones, even the organic ones. Now i haven't had them for some time and my skin is clean.

I'm definitely going to try aspirin! Just ordinary little aspirin tablets?

I use Neal's Yard cleansers.

I also go to sleep with germolene as a facial moisturiser once a week.

I eat lots of apples and carrots.

It seems to work for me.

Fishandjam · 09/05/2014 11:04

I do oil cleansing with extra virgin rapeseed oil - I just happened to have some in the cupboard when I decided I'd try oil cleansing, and it seemed pointless to buy new oil when I already had some perfectly good stuff... it works a treat for me. I also use a fairly granular Soap & Glory face scrub with salicylic acid in - though I love the sound of the (cheaper) aspirin tablet mask. I haven't had a humdinger of a zit for several months, and I used to be a right pizza face.

My diet isn't all that, by the way. But I do plenty of exercise which makes me sweaty so maybe that's clearing out the gunk as well!

Andcake · 09/05/2014 12:41

Lots of new things to try here. I've had acne since I was 12 and am now early 40's so 30 years of trying to get rid of it with everything under the sun!
Hate people with crap diet and perfect skin thoughWink

Hi op have you thought it might be dirty telephones? If it's always spots in the same place it could be.
Clean your desk phone at work with some anti bac wipes, your keyboard (also bash it gently upside down underneath your desk) and also clean your desk, pens calculator etc. and your home phone & mobile.

This may help!

winky yes just ordinary apririns which are about 24p for a pack of 16. But be sure to buy the dispersible ones or they won't make a very good paste Smile

satintaupe · 09/05/2014 16:08

I have a good diet, drink lots of water, no caffeine, don't smoke or drink alcohol, I'm not overweight and I've always had bad skin (I've been on Roaccutane twice). It was the best it has ever been when I was pregnant. I cleanse religiously too (have tried various products and regimes over the years - it doesn't matter if I use just water or do the full on CH routine). I was prescribed stuff by my GP before seeing a dermatologist but everything either aggravated my skin or gave me a serious allergic reaction (benzoyl peroxide - my face swelled up like a balloon).
