What can I do about this type of spot

2 or 3 times a year I seem to get a massive spot on my cheek (the same cheek but slightly different place).

They are huge, feel quite hard, stand out proud from the cheek, never come to a squeezable head, hang around for ages, I usually start messing about trying to get rid of it by squeezing etc so by the time it goes it leaves a red mark/scar for ages.

Is there any miracle cure, treatment or cream please that will get rid ?

(have tried witchhazel, DD's spot cream, tea tree dab on gel stuff)

Marking place as I get these too!

Wonder if it's an age thing? Peri-menopausal thing?

How old are you Liz?

Feck knows I keep getting one on my chin. It won't go away completely and keeps returning, it's driving me daft.

I get these but more often. I very, very rarely get proper spots but I get the huge under skin ones that stay for ages. I'm 27.

I call those bad boys peas. They are AWFUL.

Weirdly if I put on Lancôme self tanning gel for face before bed it seems to dry them out and they are not so bad in the morning. Sudocrem is my second choice.

These are called cystic spots/acne. They don't come to a head at all, so squeezing will never ever work. Two things will help - ice (takes down the swelling) and apparently, camomile lotion. That last one is a MN secret, meant to be amazing!

NorbertDentressangle · 08/05/2014 21:53

oooh where can I buy camomile lotion?

I have started using effaclar duo+ as I was getting horrible cystic acne. I am amazed at the difference! Grin
I'm not spot free but they are much smaller and go away much faster too. :)

I suffer with them too. Clearasil 4 hour gel is the only thing that seems to help with mine. Freederm gel makes them much worse for some reason.. well with me anyway.

Ooh finally remembered to check this thread and excited now about trying some of these remedies!

Norbert I'm 36 and yes wonder if it's a peri-menopausal thing (am not quite there yet but expect it round the corner as DM was an early menopause) also because my skin in general all of a sudden has become incredibly spotty - much worse than when I was a teenager! DM says she got lots of spots at the same age - cheers for the genes Ma Hmm

sweetheart · 14/05/2014 14:40

I get these too - I'm 33 so hopefully it's not a pre menopausal thing!!! Good to know that no amount of squeezing them will bring the head out - I must try and remember that next time the temptation to squeeze is getting the better of me!

MyrtleDove · 14/05/2014 14:45

It might be calamine lotion not camomile? And yes, they are cystic acne - you can't squeeze them! They are hormonal so they might be a peri-menopausal thing - I get them around TOTM.

Saurus72 · 14/05/2014 15:00

Effaclar duo used as a moisturiser all over your face (I use a richer eye cream to try and stop the wrinkles there) is so amazing, I can't tell you how much it has transformed my skin which was hormonal and spotty (I'm 40). I used to get these big lumpy hell spots too, and they really were rubbish. Effaclar is so brilliant, might be worth a try. I also use to face wash which is fab too.

NorbertDentressangle · 15/05/2014 18:41

aah I did wonder if pandarific meant calamine lotion when I couldn't find camomile lotion online!

Ask your GP to refer you to a dermatologist who for about £500 may be able to sort it for you.
