Very dry flaky cracked lips (on my face!) HELP :-(

Since taking Roaccutane for acne when I was 20 (Im now 32) I've been left with chronically damaged skin on my lips. Roaccutane disables oil glands so I suffered badly with cracking and bleeding to sensitive areas such as my mouth and nose.

Although I'm now happily acne free I've been left with extremely dry lips that literally flake and are always sore. I can't wear lipstick because it looks awful on and gathers on dry patches.

All normal general balms like vaseline found in highstreet shops don't do a thing except for do the same as lipstick - they just sit on the surface, but I need something that actually sinks in and properly moisturises.

Any recommendations, I don't care about the price as long as it works....

Lanolin Nipple cream works wonders

Try lansinoh. Grin

YeGodsAndLittleFishes · 07/05/2014 22:55

Drink lots more water to help long term.

Try a carrier massage oil like almond oil, which is really gentle.

YeGodsAndLittleFishes · 07/05/2014 22:56

Test lanolin products somewhere else first...lots of pwople are intolerant to it (me included).

Lanolips is amazing stuff. (guess it's exactly the same stuff as is in the nipple cream, just marketed as lip balm.) I use it on the children and on any dry patches anywhere - it's about £10 for a tube but it lasts for ages (I have had mine for at least a year I think)

petitdonkey · 07/05/2014 22:59

Just looked on their website it is stocked in Waitrose or Boots or you can buy online. I have pushed this stuff on so many people and they have all loved it. (Especially helpful on DD's sore nose this winter!!)

Neutrogena deep moisture comfort balm.

It's in a tub and is a cream consistency.

I find that lip balms will often make dry lips worse in the long run!

Currently for sale instore in Tesco for £2. It's so good I bought six!

I second Lanolips :)

I'm on Roaccutane now and suffering from the peeling lips. I've tested numerous lip balms over the last six months and the ones that really work for me are:

Apivita (I love all this skincare range, actually) - available from M&S and various online places
Lanolips (although hate the taste)
Burt's Bees
Carmex also pretty good
LaRoche Posay Cicaplast can also be used on lips and it has been my go-to moisturiser while on Roac.

Vaseline no good at all as it doesn't add moisture, just seals in what's there. Blistex made no difference either.

I use 8 hour cream for chapped lips, it works really well post ski trip but I know not everyone is enamored with the smell.

RedHatNoDrawers · 08/05/2014 09:42

Another vote for lansinoh.

nipersvest · 08/05/2014 09:44

i suffer with dry lips, have tried lots of different lip balms and have found the one that works best for me is chapstick, either the black plain one or the blue medicated.

Hey, I was on roaccutane for about 18 months in total, so my lips were awful!

I absolutely swear by kamillosan (chamomile lotion, found in the baby aisle, for nips) it's cheaper than lansinoh, and worked miracles for me. I just squirted a little into a clear pot I bought in boots and kept it with me all the time, totally fixed the problem!

Bepanthen. I know it's marketed as a nappy cream in the UK, but originally it's just a very rich moisturiser for dry and sore skin. My lips are really dry, it's the only thing that works.

Megbeth · 08/05/2014 15:14

Blisteze was always good for dry lips. It works very quickly in a few days lips are smooth.
