Can you help me find my 'style'?

I'm about to start a new job which has thrown me in at the deep end clothes wise.

I currently work in local government but am moving into the private sector. It's a rural business company (think barbour, tweed, slim trousers to fit in green wellies, scarves tied at the neck etc etc).

The typical style is not me - i suit tweedy colours but I completely the wrong shape for slim trousers. So I need to find a capsule wardrobe that's classic enough to be acceptable to their clients whilst still suiting me.

I am an extreme pear, with very heavy legs and a c - section shelf. Bottom half is a 16-18. Top half is a lot smaller -am a b cup. Waist exists - size 14 ish - but is ?short as all trousers slide down.

I need some sort of trouser that can be worn on site and outfits for meetings/office.

Does anyone have any ideas?

I think you need a good jacket to base your work wardrobe around, a smart tweedy blazer with a waisted shape sounds like it would suit you best.Do you like any of these?
ted baker
boden
mango

And rather than trousers you could wear fitted Ts with midi skirts, a slightly A line shape like this or a full/circle skirt like this will hide your legs and accentuate your waist.

Thanks so much! I love the boden jacket, and the full skirt is gorgeous too. I always love the 150 style but didn't know if you need boobs to pull it off.

I'm pear shaped too and I agree with Fauxfox that you are better off with skirts rather than trousers.

Another look to try is a light trench/coat like this Boden stripy trench with a flared plain skirt and patterned top underneath. I have that skirt in black and it's great. Very comfy and looks smart and keeps it's shape.

Meant to add, keep the skirt flared/A-line and plain and go for colour/pattern on your top half to balance you out.

Also a nice leather bag and good shoes will dress everything up too. Maybe get a haircut and some new makeup. It's your face and top half that people notice.

Yes, skirts do look better on me Smile

I do have a trench coat already but I've lost the belt - is it acceptance to wear a different colour one?

Depends. I've seen ones in beige with black belts etc. But often those type have trims on the collar in the contrast colour too. Maybe try a charity shop for an old trench in the right colour to get a matching belt?

Get a tan or brown leather belt to wear with your trench..

Good plans, thank you. A darker proper leather belt could work I think.
