Ugh Some sort of allergy or reaction on my face

No idea what has caused it but the skin around my mouth and on my chin has suddenly gone all dry, rough, red and scaly, as if it's been burned. Should I:
a) leave it alone
b) shove Sudocreme all over it
c) wear a mask
d) none of the above?

Try Vaseline, or have you any Eliz Arden 8 hour stuff?

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 07/05/2014 18:13

No 8 Hour stuff (horrible, evil smelling stuff that it is!) but do have Vaseline. Thanks.

My skin is rarely either dry or spotty, so to get both at once is not fun!

Yes, 8 hour is stinky smelly stuff but it works a treat! Try the Vaseline. Or any non irritant 'rich' (oil heavy) moisturizer.
Still no idea what triggered it?

Not unless it was the Biore, but that was on a different part of my face. I do have a tendency to put my hands on my face though, so I could have spread it, I guess, or even touched something else and then touched my face. NO idea. Thanks for your help.

I would bet it's your toothpaste. Try something mild like sensodyne pronamel or a kids one even. Then 1% hydrocortisone and cover with Eucerin Aquaphor (it's magic). You should only need one or two applications of hydrocortisone.

Ta. Am using same toothpaste as I always use though - a baking soda one.

I hope it's not impetigo.

When I was a teenager, one hot summer I made up an empty squash bottle of juice and kept it by my bed. I know this sounds revolting but over the course of several days I was drinking from it at night.

I subsequently got impetigo around my mouth and it took months to clear up.

I have had that kind of reaction before and was recommended cicaplast which is rather amazing. I think it is made by laroche posay.

It makes a very gentle healing barrier.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 08/05/2014 16:59

Thanks, both. Don't think it's impetigo (thank the gods) as it's not itchy. The olive oil seems to have helped a lot, so fingers crossed...

I get the same since having ds1. Having him has messed up my skin. When it's severe it starts like that then blisters up into pus filled lumps. Face cream, mayonnaise and sunscreen trigger mine. The last time I had it the reaction was more severe and started to affect my breathing. Luckily I was near my GP surgery and they sorted me out. I've had tests but no allergy found.
i carry antihistamines now and whenever I feel that familiar tightness and tingling I take one as soon as possible, if caught in time it's hardly noticeable.

Interesting. I did have some period pain tablets the other day, which made my throat feel a bit weird. I also had a rash on my neck for a few hours. I wonder if they might be linked?

Anyway, it seems on the mend. Thanks again, everybody. :)
