Sewing question - taking in t-shirts

I need t-shirts that shape in at the waist or I look like I have no waist. I have a few that I bought thinking they were fine but now looking at them there's excess fabric bagging round the waist that is unflattering.

I am quite handy with a sewing machine and have taken in a dress made of 'scuba' fabric using a zig-zag stitch to allow for the stretch. But, do you think this would work with jersey?

Any advice/suggestions?

Yes it works well. Ideally though you would use stretch zig zag to overlock and stretch stitch to sew the seam. Happy sewing!
