Need some Moisturiser recommendations..

I think I've been in denial about the fact that I really should have a decent skincare routine. Especially in light of some photos yesterday that showed lots of laughter lines and the development of crows feet. AAAARGH.

My skincare routine till now has consisted of simple face wipes and a haphazard selection of different moisturisers - Clarins hydra quench for years, followed by a recent foray into Dr Hauskha (sp) Melissa. Unfortunately, since DS, I have developed red spider veins on my cheeks, hence using the Melissa cream, and my skin has also got even more sensitive as I also can't use natural oil stuff like Neal's Yard as I seem to react badly.

Can anyone recommend a decent (preferably cheap-ish if possible) moisturiser for someone with spider veins on cheeks, sensitive yet combination skin? Also an eye cream to magically get rid of wrinkles? Grin

Whilst we're at it, any thoughts on foundation too? Started to use bare minerals, but sits in the pores at the moment and so isn't a great look. In fact, no foundation seems to blend in properly on my face, or sit on my skin well (tried some laura mercer tinted moisturiser which used to be my go-to until I needed something with more coverage for the spiders and it didn't work). I suspect that might have something to do with the fact that I need a decent moisturiser..

I'm using a nip + fab one which seems to give a really good foundation base. My skin is sensitive and likes it! It's called instant radiance wrinkle fix (was on offer in Tesco for about a tenner)

Foundation wise bare minerals is crap on me. I love (and I'm surprised it doesn't get mentioned more) urban decay naked skin liquid foundation. I use the real techniques stippling brush too, gives a natural look

goodasitgets · 05/05/2014 14:56

Would also suggest hot cloth cleansing so you get some gentle exfoliation. It may be the foundation is sitting on dry patches

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 05/05/2014 15:52

Eucerin

Aldi-very similar to clarins

Body shop aloe range.

Sooperswooper · 05/05/2014 17:31

Thanks for this- think I'll give Eucerin a go. Unfortunately, I have been put off anything with "venom" in the product range since I tried some of Aldi's version of protect & perfect (or whichever one had the synthetic snake venom in) and i had some kind of allergic reaction to it and it ended up making my spider veins a million times worse. My cheeks looked like I had drunk copious amounts of red wine over a very prolonged period of time Angry

Good call with the hot cloth cleansing. I am, as of tomorrow, making a concerted effort to try to get my skin back to it's plump, youthful best! i can dream Will try the urban decay foundation too. Thanks for the tip!

I don't know about anti wrinkle stuff,I tend to avoid it tbh but I meant the Aldi restorative moisturiser for sensitive skin, lovely stuff!

Anything with an SPF in it. I use Olay Regenerist with SPF 30 and then my foundation (Clinique Even Better) contains SPF 15 too.

Start using face masks too. I use the Sanctury Spa collagen boosting one and it really does give you a bit of a glow. I use it once a week.

I also massage my face with rose hip oil for a few minutes before bed. Been doing that for a week or so now and I've just started to get some nice comments about my skin Smile

TheBabyFacedAssassin · 05/05/2014 19:15

For the hot cloth cleansing i love the superdrug radiance one, and it's half price at the moment. I also use the day and night moisturisers in the same range and they have done wonders for my skin. I would have fairly sensitive skin too and these haven't given me any bother.

ContinentalKat · 05/05/2014 19:23

I really rate the boots organics sensitive stuff. I am using the cleansing milk and day cream at the moment, and my sensitive skin likes it.
I also use no. 7 bb cream and powder.

Still on the lookout for something better, but this will do for now.
I was surprised by how nice Lush dream cream is, too. No nasties, but also no SPF iirc.

Sooperswooper · 07/05/2014 10:16

Saw the Olay regenerist on offer in super drug so bought that with high hopes.. unfortunately it leaves my face all sticky, makes my poor, spidery cheeks flare red, and has given me spots! A definite no to that. Have decided to use that as an around the eye cream, so as not to waste it, and have a look at the offers around on the other lotions and potions recommended! Think I'm going to have to veer towards organic, sensitive, as natural stuff as I can. It's a pain brands like Olay & No 7 and things don't do testers as I really can't afford to shell out on things that cause reactions- a good excuse to go into Space NK and get my hands on some testers in there though! AAargh! For my pre ds, non sensitive, non spidery skin!

How about aveda? Actually give me a minute and I will find a link to a nice not pricey cream Smile

goodasitgets · 07/05/2014 10:25

Found it! I have used this with great effect previously - cleared up my spots which was a bonus
If you click back into the aromatherapy creams category they have some v mild ones like chamomile or under base preparations they have a plain base cream

Or REN do an evercalm range for sensitive skin. I've used their omega 3 serum (love it) which has rosehip and wheatgerm, you only need a tiny bit

theginganinja · 07/05/2014 10:41

Avene skin recovery cream. Whenever my face is wind chapped or radiator fatigued, this is the stuff that I turn to. There's no perfume in it either.

SuperFlyHigh · 07/05/2014 10:53

whatever you do ditch the cleansing wipes - only for emergencies.

a cleanser/toner or 2 in one is much better/kinder for your skin.

PootlewasthebestFlump · 08/05/2014 22:20

Agree - cleansing wipes are too harsh.

Go onto the Avene website and complete their quiz and you'll get free samples within a week.

Email Ren and they'll ask for samples.

Go into NYR and ask for samples.

SuperFlyHigh · 09/05/2014 12:02

Pootle I'm not mad keen on NYR (a bit greasy for me) but thanks for the Avene and Ren tips!

I usually wait til summer for a Ren kit to appear as freebie in magazines!

Sooperswooper · 09/05/2014 16:25

Aha! That's great pootle- thank you. Unfortunaely NYR and other essential oil based things make my skin flare up but will definitely try avenue and Ren.

Their soothing starflower range seems very gentle.

There's also an organic Cornish range called Spiezia which is lovely but I can't remember if they do a moisturiser (they must do).
