Breastfeeding and fed up of jeans and tshirts

Iamnotachewtoy · 05/05/2014 09:46

I'm a bit fed up of the jeans and tshirts with vest tops underneath combo I seem to have fallen into. I have big boobs which don't seem to work with slit style nursing tops I got from JoJo Mamam Bebe, I just end up flashing the whole boob.

I used to live in dresses with knee boots and I miss that but none of my dresses would work with bf. I'm short, and I have a bit of a tummy still, but decent enough legs.

I've looked on Pinterest for inspiration but haven't found much. Any suggestions or pointers to blogs etc welcome!

My jeans alternatives are:

  • faux wrap dress with a camisole - lift up cami and hoick dress out of the way to feed.
  • button front dress from Baukjen - again, unbutton and lift cami
  • tube skirts with tshirts - wear as jeans!

Marking my place here - only 3 weeks in and already sick of loose-top-over-tight-vest-with skinnies. It's useful and looks OK but I don't want to wear the same look every day.

What about a low cut tube dress with a cropped wide top over it?

Indith · 05/05/2014 10:47

Second wrap dresses and button dresses. Get some cheap camis and cut them so they end just below your boobs so you can easily list them up. Or with the time of year you might be able to find cheap bandeau boob tube type things you can use in that way.

Iamnotachewtoy · 05/05/2014 12:14

Thanks for the replies! Cutting the camisole tops below the boob seems so obvious now it's been pointed out, but it never occurred to me.. I can see how I'd work wrap dresses now, I couldn't figure it out before Blush

I do have some bandeau things knocking about somewhere too.

Tops over dresses too, I like that idea! Thanks!

Any other tricks I've probably missed, please feel free to point out to me Smile

Tunics or kaftans can work too with leggings as you can shove the baby up them and still be ok because of the leggins where obviously you can't do that with a dress.

Skirts. I have given up on jeans, just so bored if them having worn them all winter. I have a black a line, navy a line and navy slightly gathered one which I am wearing with opaques and either ankle boots or flats. I have indigo and white denim ones waiting for some sunshine. Wearing the same tops as I would have with skinnies.

I feel much happier and put together since I ditched the jeans.

LJBanana · 05/05/2014 12:56

I'm watching with interest. I am so bored and feel so scruffy. I'm doing the double top thing too-unfortunately it's the same double tops I've been wearing since ds1 and I'm now on ds3.
Also my nursing bras give the worst 'shape' and nil support. I'm a G cup without breast feeding so I need support. Any recommendations for good bra's?

Pigginnora · 05/05/2014 13:04

I'm glad it's not just me!

I don't own a dress or skirt.

I'm a size 8. Normally wear fitted clothes but can't now.I'm wearing an 32E but look 'droppy' so no tops that actually show my shape...

It's starting to really get me down now. Baby is 3 months now. Any suggestions appreciated!

Indith · 05/05/2014 14:22

re bras so long as they are well fitted there is no reason not to wear underwire. You can get some nursing ones. Otherwise though i've not been wearing nursing bras for over a year now, I just have lovely normal balcony or half cup bras and hoik my boobs out. easier than fiddling with clips I reckon!

GoogleyEyes · 05/05/2014 14:29

I found the Mamaway feeding tops worked well for G cups, and got them off eBay as they're a bit pricey from the main shop. Oh, and bras4mums had a decent selection of underwired feeding bras, which helped a lot, too.

whilewildeisonmine · 05/05/2014 14:30

My staples are wrap dresses with camisoles underneath - just pull down dress and cami and cover up with a scarf/muslin if necessary. I also wear a lot of vest style tops which I just pull down and usually a long cardigan and jeans/skirt. I'm currently wearing a stretch jersey tea dress which I can pull down to feed in.

LJBanana · 05/05/2014 19:49

What do you wear on your feet with wrap dresses? I have 2 other DC's so do a fair bit of walking/chasing!

LJBanana · 05/05/2014 20:44

Oooh im excited, I've just ordered 2 tops from mamaway. Thanks for the tip!!!

GoogleyEyes · 06/05/2014 15:22

Ooh, hope they work for you.

LJBanana · 08/05/2014 10:27

They're being delivered today. I will let you know about the boob access, shape etc etc once I've tried them on.

PeaceLillyDoge · 08/05/2014 10:35

Watching with interest, so bored of the same look. To mix it up I try Vests with shirts (open obvs as they won't close over my tits) with a nice scarf. I just pull the vest down to feed and usethe scarf for some coverage if needed.

ZingWatermelon · 08/05/2014 18:09

what? you can wear jeans? as in normal jeans?!

ChaffinchOfDoom · 08/05/2014 20:23

I dream of normal jeans..........

LJBanana · 08/05/2014 22:20

They didn't get delivered. It was a pack of 3 juggling balls that I ordered during a night feed and have no idea why. Jeans and t shirt it was.

If you have been properly fitted since starting bf, you don't need to wear a nursing bra you can get a wired one and adapt it. Hebburnisaplaceonearth told me about it when I posted asking for advicce on what I could wear under a dress for a wedding. I feel so much more comfy and my boobs look like boobs not a shelf. tutorial here I'm in a J cup at the moment and no wire was a truly bad look and was also causing blocked ducts as the weight of my boobs was compressing them.

As for what to wear, I wear a vest top and cardigan and a scarf with jeans, skirt or cords. Fasten bottom of cardigan, lift top up eough to create booby peephole and attach child. Scarf to cover any bits that might get flash now that baby is more interested in nebbing around rather than just feeding. Also works with zip up hoodie for lazy days.

I tend to wear jeans for days at playgroup as sitting on floor etc, but other days, I'm feeling much happier in a skirt. I've also been wearing loosish shell tops and doing the same cardigan trick

Wrap dresses didn't work too well for me, they seemed to get stretched out too much when I pulled them to one side. They were Boden ones.

Deep V dress also worked with a cami underneath or no cami and a scarf/pashmina. Had to hoik the boob out but it worked ok.

MsFanackerPants · 09/05/2014 00:39

Oh, and those chiffon-y tops with a camisole/vest underneath, cami down, chiffon up, baby on. I wore a navy blue one with a mustard skirt last week and felt something approaching stylish.

MsAspreyDiamonds · 09/05/2014 02:50

www.sainsburys-live-well-for-less.co.uk/tu-clothing/products/women/lemon-print-dress/

I like this because it can be worn with or without bandeau top & leggings and it is button through. Plus the print is cheerful & summery.

LJBanana · 09/05/2014 11:17

Fanaker do you have a different link for the bra trick? It's not working. I am sick of double bubble mono boob. I think I need putting down today. My one and only pair of leggings have a hole in them, my most fitting of ill fitting nursing bra's has ripped and the boob that's not currently in use has leaked through my top.
If ever Gok needed a challenge!

Laughing a Freudian click Zing- indeed it was!!
