Do you ever feel you've got it right or not style wise?

Do you feel you've got it right re clothes, in particular weekend/evening clothes?

I know what jeans/trousers suit me and veer from the norm occasionally. I also know what accessories can brighten up an outfit and stand out ones that get compliments.

I don't really do scarves (don't bother) but occasionally do a chiffon printed one (Accessorize), I know what colours shapes and prints suit me but occasionally buy the odd dodgy one (some above elbow sheer diamond top thing from Top Shop it may need a belt or other jeans/trousers?!).

In fact the other week I picked up a vintage monsoon dress at a vintage shop - lovely colours, print and length. and also some turquoise suede slight hi top Nikes (vintage 10 GBP Portobello Rd). I also love my Superga Leopard print and the odd converse.

Work isn't too bad (even if you read my last post re workwear!) but I just wonder sometimes, I am getting it right, aren't I?!

Oh - shops I prefer these days - & Other Stories and Massimo Dutti as opposed to Zara. oh and Cos but never brave enough to buy there, yet. will get something there. gone right off Top Shop which used to be a staple.

thanks for the read Smile

I love it when it feels right. Makes me realise that I genuinely don't do fashion/clothes/style for anyone else, but for how good it is when it goes right Smile

Ha, hi Super!

Think you can guess from my thread that no, I don't feel like I have it right with clothes Grin

Work wise, no problem, I know what suits me and although perhaps it's a little boring (mostly pencil skirts and dresses), on the whole I think people would say that I look nice and I feel nice.

Outside of work, NOT A BLOODY CLUE. I'm following half a dozen blogs for inspiration but must admit, none of it sets me on fire. I walk around shops and most of them resemble jumble sales full of black and grey or more recently, neon yellow and pink which I don't think is up my street.

I've spent my 30's getting married, having kids and getting divorced so fashion has not been close to making it onto my priority list for the last decade and it shows! However, after a little period of self reflection, I'm trying to 'rediscover' myself style wise but sadly at the moment, it's just not happening!

Dreams

Do you mean the jeans or is there another one?! Smile

Actually I'm the same as you - I don't follow blogs but none of the looks on the street (the occasional person I see looks great) and especially in the shops grab me! and I used to be able to shop for Britain!

so true to do with grey and black (I do wear black) but neon yellow and pink and some fabrics…. I'm just left thinking ah well I'll stick with what I have.

I do know moreorless what suits me colours, shapes etc… even evening stuff. But sometimes I see/want a new evening top and I'm stumped.

Exactly! I think I roughly know what suits me in terms of style/colour etc but I'll be buggered if I can find it in any of the shops.

Yesterday for example whilst supposedly shopping, I could have easily filled a wardrobe with work stuff and 'occasion' wear e.g. a party or guest at a wedding type clothes but day to day casual was awful!

I've put it down to a) being out of touch a bit with fashion b) maybe at a transition age (39) for dressing so don't want to look like mutton but equally not over the hill just yet c) perhaps not experimental enough.

I sat with a coffee people watching to see what everyone else was wearing and it was very depressing! Not one person caught my eye really. I too looked less than stunning myself so not wanting to put other people down but blimey, I thought spending money on clothes was meant to be fun!

Ha Dreams you must be me!

I rarely shop now (work in a small town but with biggish dept store (no Zara etc) but last time I passed Zara it was to be fair boring and looked as though I'd be bored of it in a second.

I'm 42 (young looking though) and I get you - maybe we're at a transitional age - I do look on S&B here but I get a bit bored of skinny jeans (they suit me) and I only have 2 scarves whereas they love their scarves.

I also like Converse etc but don't love them… to me they're trainers!

I'm similar to you but then again I do see people during the day (workwear) or at weekends - so may seem to be clones or trying to hard and a few of them (overground line going to Shoreditch etc) appear to be young and obviously trendy! But that's not me anymore…

I do have nice outfits nice tops but if I do want to spend money more and more I think no…
