Shampoo

Can you give me your recommendations for a shampoo and conditioner that I can buy in either a large Tesco or a small Boots?
My hair has usually been the one feature I am proud of - long and although fine there was plenty of it and seemed to have a nice shine to it. It was fabulous when pg and in the early days of DD, but lately it seems to have lost its bounce - have had a trim but I think I need to give it some more care and attention. Have been using whatever is to hand - currently aldi's version of pantene.
Have read about product/silicon build up on some threads here and I wonder if that's a factor. Are there any non silicon/sls (does sls mean the silicon compounds?) products I can buy when I go do my weekly shop later on? Or just any of the high street brands/shampoos that you would recommend as they have helped your hair?

Faith in nature and Jasons are both brilliant and not too expensive.

I've heard people say ABP - Anything But Pantene - so maybe your Pantene~ique shampoo is causing build up?

My DD loves the Aussie shampoos (she has really long hair) they are usually on special offer (but my brain is Confused looking at all the types on offer)

And don't underestimate the final cold rinse. Our shower runs cold the last 30 seconds once it's been switched off so I keep my head under.

SLS is sodium laureth sulfate, it's the stuff that makes the shampoo foam up, basically. A surfactant. It gives me an itchy scalp.

I like the L'Oreal EverRiche range (no sulphites). My hair is also long & fine.

Sulfates. FFs, my autocorrect cannot cope

Aussie breaks me out in spots along my hairline

Your hair sounds like mine. The only thing that made difference was L'Oreal Pro Keratin Shampoo www.amazon.co.uk/LOreal-Pro-Keratin-Shampoo-1500ml/dp/B00A2YR6IS
I was a bit skeptical about it at the beginning (not L'oreal fan generally) but it was a really nice surprise to see that something actually worked. Not sure if you can find it in supermarkets, but you can order it online.

If you're going to go sulphate-free, make sure you give your hair a clarifying wash first before using the SLS-free products.

Many women complain that their hair is unmanageable, dry at the ends and oily at the scalp when first using SLS-free products, and it's often because the product/silicon build-up is still on the scalp and the new shampoo isn't penetrating through that.

Thanks - it sounds like there's 2 things going on - silicon build up on the hair which needs to be removed. Then its possible to successfully use sulphate free products to maintain nice hair.

Tabvase - what is a clarifying wash?

I've made a note of the products suggested in my phone and will go spend some time in the shampoo aisle. Probably tomorrow now as DP has suggested a carvery rather than doing the supermarket shop!

I've recently given this a try and found that naked and body shop rainforest range REALLY didn't work out for me.now using ever straight keratin smooth and much happier with it. Am also trying to be generally kinder to my hair I.e . Less straighteners

I used pantene clarifying shampoo to cleanse my hair if build up

bouncinbean · 08/05/2014 10:16

Just an update - I bought the pantene clarifying shampoo and their silicon free conditioner from tesco. Washed my hair last night and it had that squeaky clean feeling. It looks nice today after sleeping on it - definitely an improvement which I hope will last rather than just the effect of a change in shampoo.

I can also recommend the L'oreal sulphate free shampoo and conditioner which is currently on offer in Tesco and Sainsburys
this range

Second L'Oreal EverRiche, which has a S&C for fine hair (yellow tubes). Makes hair shiny and smells great.
