First 'proper' perfume - DD16. Ideas please?

Dd will be 16 in a few weeks and has asked for proper perfume.
Call me old-fashioned or daft but I feel as if it's a small rite of passage into womanhood! I can remember my first proper perfume, so can my Mum*!
Can I have your suggestions as to some suitable scents to sniff? I found the selection in the department store so overwhelming I walked out again.
As she is young, I think something quite light, floral - maybe a hint of burgeoning sexuality? DD is a brunette, curvy, competent, confident, party animal.
She is sentimental so will probably keep the bottle, so the look of the bottle is important.
I was hoping for a 'classic' - Chanel, Dior, Lauder etc but a youthful perfume, not something granny would wear. I am not sure about celebrity perfumes as they seem faddy, but willing to test if they smell divine!
Please send me suggestions so I can test selectively!

(* 'J'ai Ose' and 'Mitsouko' respectively!)

I agree, this is such a lovely thing to do.
Be Delicious is great, Ralph by Ralph Lauren but bottle is dull!

MyrtleDove · 03/05/2014 19:05

Oh, what about Gucci Flora? Pretty bottle too.

holidaysarenice · 03/05/2014 19:08

Kenzo flower is my vote. It's been my staple for a long time and has a gorgeous poppy on the bottle. Not too heavy either.

MsAspreyDiamonds · 03/05/2014 19:18

Benefit has a range of perfumes in really funky bottles which will look good on any dressing table. Eva is my favourite, its light & refreshing so suitable for every day.

Mildpanic · 03/05/2014 19:24

How lovely.
What about getting a few of the little testers first, they are often happy to let you have them if you ask.
I love Tommy Girl or Clinique Happy for your daughters age group.

RoseHoney · 03/05/2014 19:27

Jimmy Choo Flash is lovely!

Nowitscleanugobshite · 03/05/2014 19:33

My first "grown up" perfume was Anais Anais! It seemed to be a right of passage in the 80s! My 19 yr old DD has a perfume collection that Boots would be proud to own. She loves very sweet perfumes-too sweet for my tastes these days. The ones I like best are Si, black XS, and juicy couture.

MyrtleDove · 03/05/2014 19:45

The new D&G one - Dolce? Bottle is pale blue/grey with a cream flower on the stopper. Armani Si is also a good option.

littlegreengloworm · 03/05/2014 19:50

Coco mademoiselle would be a nice classic for her

I personally love jean Paul gautier

HosepipeDan · 03/05/2014 19:57

I wear Romance by Ralph Lauren. It's lovely and I've worn it most days for about 15 years.

I also like miss Dior. Wish I had a mum like you my birthday is in June btw Grin

Toadsrevisited · 03/05/2014 20:25

Prada, delicious or how about the Clarins eau de jardin? All v youthful. What a lovely mum you are!

MaitreKarlsson · 03/05/2014 20:27

Chanel Cristalle - my first real perfume. Light & fresh. Still love it!

Lightshines · 03/05/2014 22:37

Thank you, lovelies! There seem to be some which have got a few of your 'votes' and I will make a list to take with me.
Looked at some online already - 'Daisy' and 'Flower' have lovely bottles.
I wear Clinique 'Aromatics' so will be testing 'Happy' too!
Enjoying all the nostalgic perfume memories as well - might start another thread on that one day....

I wear "Happy" and I am 43.... It is lovey to smell, but the bottle is not very exciting.

Botanicbaby · 03/05/2014 22:58

you sound like a brilliant mum! what a lovely idea.

my first 'proper' perfume was Dune.

another vote for Chanel Coco Mademoiselle or Romance by RL, cute square bottle or the jardin Clarins one.

Chanel Chance in the Fresh scent is lovely, simple bottle but classic.

Daisy bottles are great, I'd have loved one of those as a teen. Hope you both have fun.

ohms11 · 04/05/2014 03:11

Annick goutal..

ohms11 · 04/05/2014 03:14

Sorry. Meant to say Annick Goutal, Petite Cherie... created for her teenaged daughter. It is floral, fruity and grassy. Just gorgeous and slightly less sweet than, say, Vera Wang princess.

goodasitgets · 04/05/2014 03:22

How about going somewhere like selfridges to pick?
They have more unusual brands, and you could have a lovely day out too

goodasitgets · 04/05/2014 03:23

Posted too soon!
They stock maison martin margiela who has some lovely scents and Marc Jacobs (ones like the splash are more unusual)

Deathraystare · 04/05/2014 07:02

My choice of perfume is definitely different to my mum's. I love chypres and she loves florals.

Whatever you do, please steer her away from 'sleb' perfumes. There is no variety. They all smell sweet and cheap with a few honoured exceptions, plus you have to live with the smell too!!!

KittyandTeal · 04/05/2014 07:30

I love 'miss dior' the lighter summer one (can't remember the name) I reckon that would be nice and fresh for a young lady.

Ohwhatfuckeryisthis · 04/05/2014 07:34

My dd has bedelicious and daisy both lovely. What she really wants is miss Dior but always eye wateringly expensive .

Lightshines · 04/05/2014 10:10

The Annick Goutal sounds lime a must - never even heard of it before!

Popping back to old threads - I sometimes wonder what people decided in the end!

The answer was....(fanfare)....Marc Jacobs 'Daisy'.
