plus size wedding guest dress, opinions?

linky

Is that suitable for a wedding in June? Or is it not posh enough?

I had looked at this one but I think its just a little bit too short for what I would be comfortable with. Although its not that much shorter than the other one.

I am 5ft9 and a size 24, and apparently I have a cool skin tone.

:)

Ah...I see, so effectively empire line?

Green in a pattern is fine, but I haven't tried many greens after a few failed attempts when I was younger, so there are probably some shades that would suit. I just don't know which ones.

Google tells me that those with a cool skin tone should stick to "jewel colours" so that must include green.

Jesus I dunno about colour. I'm a neutral and neon kinda gal.
There are 85 thousand million threads on S&B with people talking about but never promoting colourmebeautiful
Ask on one of those threads ...they know all about colour..puts the fear in me
Hope it goes well

The only thing about the first few linked to is that they are all polyester. I don't like it, it's too hot and shiney.

How about this www.landsend.co.uk/Womens_Linen_Ruched_Sheath_Dress__/pp/P_26854.html

or this?

The ASOS green check midi is a good one - the length is right, and it will give you more of a waist. Don't go above the knee if you are a size 24, particularly if you have fat, dimply knees. Personally (and I am fat), I don't think anything looks worse if you are carrying extra weight, than a flared skater type dress cutting across the middle of fat thighs (particularly if you wear ballet flats or kitten heels, with no tights or nude tights, as it gives the illusion of trotters). I also thought your first dress was OK.

I don't buy that "an empire line flares out over tummy and hips... drawing attention to the slimmest part" - IMO, an empire line flares out, drapes over your tummy and hips and makes you look twice the size and/or pregnant. Much better to go for something more fitted that gives you an illusion of a waist. If you do want something more floaty, for comfort, the longer length skater dress is nicer, and will probably work.

The kimono dresses will make some people think you have come along in your dressing gown!

I was just saying to DP earlier, I don't understand why so many of the dresses in the plus size sections are cut so short. Just an extra 2 inches would make them much more flattering.

Panda, I couldn't agree more! Knee length is fine, and quite flattering. Mid thigh - noooo!

I also think that a lot of the Asos dresses are not really flattering for larger sizes - I have huge boobs, I don't want a high, round neck, otherwise it gives me a monoboob effect, and there's a huge expanse of fabric with nothing to break it up. A slightly lower neck, more of a scoop, would be much more flattering.

I'm a size 14 with big boobs and empire line dresses are the most unflattering shape for me.
Skater dresses aren't good either, bit I have chubby knees.
A semi fitted below knee one is usually a good option for curvy shapes

Agree about empire line being unflattering. I'm a 14 with big belly and they just make me look very pregnant.

I'm the same height and more or less same size as you (can manage 22 in most ranges) and very much agree with what's been said about the need for definition. For that reason, kimonos and anything baggy/ fussy in cut are out.

Also totally agree on length. My legs are slim from knee down and upper but not too bad but would never go shorter than just on knee.

Personally would never go for linen for an occasion when you have to look smart all day - creases too much.

I actually like the first one on your OP best - maybe because it's quite similar to one I'm thinking of wearing to a christening soon. I like the black and white combo for summer - and it gives lots of scope in colour of shoes and accessories.

Having said that, first dress is said to be 38'' long which wouldn't be over my knee but a couple of inches above .

This is a lovely shape samya
If the knot is in the right place, this is pretty
love this if you prefer a black base

I love the ruffle dress, but then maybe its too undefined in shape?

What colour shoes would you all wear with the first dress in the OP?

I like those dresses wildthong and the landsend stuff looks nice

Sorry about the rubbish ideas sometimes what works on one shape is rubbish on another

I like the colours of the ruffle dress but think it is, as you say, too undefined. Also don't think all those ruffles sticking out would be flattering on a larger size.

Ronald, you're right and that's what's great about these threads. there's always something different suggested for all our different shapes and sizes.

On what shoes to wear with first dress, am watching with interest as the dress I have my eye on is also patterned with black and white daisies with yellow 'eyes' and am wondering same thing.(don't like/ can't wear yellow, except in tiny touches, but OP may).

Panda, the black platform peep toes in the Very video of the dress are lovely

Emerald green is flattering on cool skin tones, but difficult to find in spring/summer stock!

As for skater dresses, I wear them with Dr Martens usually which is not very helpful for weddings admittedly Smile I love my chunky thighs though, they're strong and powerful. I don't care if my skater dresses make them look fatter, that's not a bad thing to me.
