What do you think of Jigsaw?

Just that really. I shop there a lot, so obviously like some of their stuff but sometimes I think I'm stuck in a Jigsaw-rutt because I struggle to find much elsewhere that I really like. I wonder what other people think because it doesn't seem to get much mention on here.

beautiful in the 80s always coveted, i was broke student
Now.. a few nice bits but mainly frumpsville

TheRealMaryMillington · 01/05/2014 21:30

I used to love it - used to have gorgeous fabrics and some interesting dresses in amongst the uber safe stuff…..but the last three or four years have been dowdy as hell, really insipid. Some of the accessories are ok.

I fear they may not be long for this world. They have shut their Liverpool store But I guess they are Really Not much of a Liverpool brand.

TheRealMaryMillington · 01/05/2014 21:32

OP have you tried Anthropologie? Hobbs even - the NW3 stuff?

rootypig · 01/05/2014 21:40

Only I never see moths either but something is giving them ridiculous holes Confused. Lavender and cedar bags are said to work well, but I think the answer is to keep things aired. Freezing kills moth eggs - is the only thing that does. If you machine wash get a delicates bag, your drum could be catching and tearing things. Freezing: put them in ziploc bags to prevent them getting damp. It's just the icy cold you want Grin

Bought a fantastic little jacket there the other day. First thing I've bought in Jigsaw since 1991!

Cereal0ffender · 01/05/2014 21:45

God I used to love jigsaw, got my first work suit there, good to hear they have improved. Last time I was in it felt like Hobbs younger but equally frumpy sister

Eastpoint · 01/05/2014 21:48

They've got a new CEO who is late 40's & I think used to work at John Lewis. Their men's wear designer used to work for Nicole Fahri.

I really love Jigsaw and rarely regret a purchase. It did go through a frumpy phase, but I think the amount of frumpy stock has been significantly reduced. I've always found the quality to be excellent. In my experience stuff I buy from Jigsaw lasts and lasts.

My best buys:
Navy leather biker
Khaki Italian wool military coat
Umpteen dresses
Italian wool suiting for work
Stripy ts and jumpers (which last)

The shops themselves are generally very attractive and sometimes are interesting conversions of old buildings e.g a grand old bank in Glasgow. I get quite excited at the thought of an hour's browse in a Jigsaw ( sad), although the experience has been marred on a few occasions by the excessive push invests of the sales staff.

Magicrealism · 02/05/2014 06:39

Pushiness

Onlyconnect · 02/05/2014 09:09

therealmarymillington I have been in Anthropologie, only once but will have a closer look. I have bought the odd thing in Hobbs but find the work stuff a bit too stiff looking for me.
I like the Jigsaw stores, the space is great, especially as I now find myself with a pushchair once again. I have not found the sales staff pushy. In fact they are one of things I like about the shop. Last time , in Birmingham, one of them emptied some stock out of a little room for me to change in so I could fit the pushcair in with me; and they have kept my suitcase behind the counter for me before. I'm not very imaginative and get in a rut with clothes very easily so I like to get a few ideas from them.

Anthropologie reminds me of old Jigsaw, in a good way, not a dated way! I love it.

Just taken a look at Jigsaw and some of the colours and clothes seem to have jazzed up a bit, but the whole place (especially children's clothing, though it isn't expensive) is like the shop that time forget. And they still like the good old bias cut I see!

MarshaBrady · 02/05/2014 09:51

Didn't they have lots of dark wood back then? I loved that feel to it. It felt plush.

boatcanal · 02/05/2014 09:55

time forgot not forget!

SpringyReframed · 02/05/2014 10:13

It boring and expensive. I went in the other day and 10 seconds in, I thought why did I bother. Nothing to recommend it.

Justinepants · 02/05/2014 11:02

I tend to go in when they have a sale on and have got a couple of lovely bargains.

I've always found their shop assistants really nice and not afraid to say when something doesn't really suit you.

bigboned · 02/05/2014 11:12

Shop assistants just too pushy. Any attempts to browse are marred by frequent attempts to 'help'.

MrsFlorrick · 02/05/2014 12:26

Ah Jigsaw (sigh). It used to be amazing. 90s and early 00s.
Now its boring frump-o-rama with poorer quality fabrics and unflattering hard to wear cuts.

I still have a wardrobe full of "old" Jigsaw from early 00 and its all beautifully cut and lined. Fabrics are expensive silks, cashmere, linens and quality cotton etc.

I used to buy everything in there. It was my first stop every season and then to LK Bennett for shoes and the odd formal/occasion suit.

I actually want to weep when I think how easy clothes shopping was when Jigsaw were fab.

So Jigsaw ditch the badly and oddly cut cheap mixed fabrics and the frump. Bring back the lovely fabrics and sharp cuts thank you. Grin

Do hope they're reading this.
