Birkenstocks-they ARE going to get more comfortable aren't they?

I got some (shoes, grey suede with teal soles and laces) on Sunday, wore them to work Monday, comfy enough till about 5 then my oh my, did my feet hurt. Skipped yesterday, then wore them today. I'm currently luxuriating with my shoes off. Tell me that they are going to be like slippers soon. (However, the hysteria that the kids at school find in my new footwear will I fear last a long, long time)

Mine have never been like slippers. I think it depends on how well your foot aligns with the shaped footbed, and mine doesn't all that well.

Mine never got more comfy. I have resigned myself to flip flops as they feel much more comfortable despite not having good support for feet!

NorbertDentressangle · 30/04/2014 19:18

I didn't realise you could get Birkie shoes with laces.

I've got a couple of pairs of sandals that are really comfy but they did take a bit of getting used to when new. In fact, even at the beginning of each summer when I dig them out again, I have to remember not to wear them too much for the first couple of times. After that I can walk miles in them

To maxx is your friend Norbert. Wanted some clumpy mid season shoes under the delusion that I could pull off the midi skirt and clumpy look without looking like a total frump. Guess what?

I live in birkenstock madrids, soooooo comfortable. Dd1 couldn't get on with them at all, hurt her feet.

justmuddlingalong · 30/04/2014 20:48

Don't wear them all day to begin with, just for short periods at a time. The footbed takes a while to mould to your feet.

tethersend · 30/04/2014 20:56

Burn them.

NorbertDentressangle · 30/04/2014 20:58

I've just looked on the TK Maxx site Ohwhatfuckeryisthis....they're, erm, interesting shoes but I think I'll stick to the sandals thanks Grin.

What age were the kids that found them hysterical?

BehindLockNumberNine · 30/04/2014 21:11

I am a huge huge Birkenstock fan. I have been wearing them every summer for the past 10 + years. I love them as I am prone to plantar fasciitis and the shaped footsole of my Birkies keeps it at bay...

The first day or two of every summer are hell. I limp around, question my sanity, look online for other footwear, even consider walking part of the school run barefoot.... I develop a blister where the toe post is. (I wear the Gizeh style)

But then, suddenly, on day 3 the pain disappears and I forget I am wearing them. It is as good as being barefoot.
And I am back to loving them.

Stick with it, they are surprisingly comfortable once bedded in...

Today I have walked around with no achey feet.
The kids were year 9 (and the type to laugh at any perceived fashion infringement. I literally give not one fuck)

I break mine in over a couple of weeks wearing them on and off.

mrsclooneythefirst · 03/05/2014 17:35

mine were okay on one foot but the other one never kind of 'lined up' so not for me

LaurieFairyCake · 03/05/2014 17:37

They really suited me. Have about 20 pairs. Take a while to bed in but when they do, fab.
