Moisturiser and foundation issue

UncrushedParsley · 30/04/2014 15:36

I put my moisturiser on, then potter about doing other stuff while it settles. Then I go back and put foundation on. Quite often I get a wierd reaction (?) where I end up with moist flakes of moisturiser, which is not a good look.... Where am I going wrong? Too much moisturiser? Not enought time to soak in? This follows on from the 'How long to get ready' thread. A lot of people are showered and made-up within the hour. Maybe it's just me Grin

Could it be the type of moisturiser and foundation aren't really compatible? I do pretty much what your do.

FoxyHarlow123 · 30/04/2014 15:46

I get the same 'pilling'. Not sure what the answer is mind.

I get this with some combinations of serum/moisturiser/foundation. I think it's just incompatable ingredients combining. You just need to try a different moisturiser or foundation, I think.

UncrushedParsley · 30/04/2014 16:27

But that makes it so complicated! And don't get me started on serum/moisturiser/foundation sagas Grin

Which two do you use then Crafty?

Superdrug Naturally radiant hot cloth cleanser followed by the radiance balm.
Avon BB cream.

MarysDressSways1 · 30/04/2014 16:47

Mine does that if I put the foundation on too soon, try giving it longer to sink in etc?

UncrushedParsley · 30/04/2014 16:49

Thanks all. How long do you give it Marys?

Thanks Crafty

You need to make sure your moisturiser/primer and foundation have the same type of formulation, so water+water, silicon+silicon or oil+oil. Any other combination won't work brilliantly.

breakingtradition · 30/04/2014 16:59

Does your moisturiser contain SPF? These don't really sink in the same. They sit on top. Having said that, I use one and my foundation goes on ok. What are you using?

UncrushedParsley · 30/04/2014 17:08

Loreal with an SPF, followed by no 7 foundation Breaking... Thanks Antoinette do I just need to scrutinise ingredients then?

Oh and I wait about 15 minutes I think before I apply foundation, but obvioiusly it depends on how rushed I am etc. Just for the record, I use Olay Regenerist serum and moisturiser with SPF 30 and then Clinique Even Better foundation, number 01. I'm quite pale Grin

breakingtradition · 30/04/2014 17:12

I think no 7 foundations are quite heavy, so it could be the SPF and that particular foundation not getting on well together. Don't ditch the SPF though! That's the best thing you can do for your skin, imo anyway. I would think about changing your foundation.

AntoinetteCosway · 30/04/2014 17:34

Yep! Bit of a pain but worth it.

UncrushedParsley · 30/04/2014 17:38

Thanks peeps!

For me it just depends on the moisturiser. Clarins beauty flash balm pills really badly on me as do some Olay moisturisers. Most don't though so I just avoid the ones that cause it. It's more about that than any application technique for me.

HowAboutNo · 30/04/2014 18:33

antoinette is bang on... Took me ages to figure out why I was having a problem!

cosikitty · 30/04/2014 18:40

I think it will be the moisturizer, some do this, especially if they are quite waxy ones. It shouldn't take that long for it to sink in, I only give mine 2-3 minutes while I brush my hair and it's fine. I use clinique even better foundation in alabaster (01) and Paula's choice moisturizer.
