Christening outfit - weird to wear navy trousers?

Hello stylish folk....

Would it be dull / frumpy of me to wear navy trousers to my DD's christening? I really don't like my legs much at all, so was thinking of wearing some navy trousers, with some nice shoes and a nice top.

I have bought these which I think fit well and the length makes them (hopefully) not look officey, and was planning to wear them with some strappy suede pink/coral shoes which I got from Boden a couple of years ago but have barely worn, along with with a pale pink top. The top I have in mind actually covers the waistband and pleated parts of the trousers, which is a good thing I think as I don't much like my middle!

Is this a really dull idea and should I wear a dress to make it seem more special?

I personally would wear a dress or much dressier trousers....the ones you linked to kind of say 'everything else is in the wash' Grin

Im going to a christening on Sun, Ive got a couple of dress options (Next/ Miss Selfridge)

What is the reason you dont like your legs? If its the colour/ veins etc could you wear tights?

Perfectly fine OP and the shoes will look nice with them. I wouldn't cover up the waist band and pleating though - that's what gives them its look! What about a cami - perhaps cream with lace at the top - and either a lightweight cropped cardi or knitted jacket type thing in a similar colour to your shoes.

I'm not a big fan of dresses always - they don't suit everyone and can look a bit cheap if indeed they are cheap.

Or tuck in and then 'puff out' a bit the pink top you have.

They're just big! Heavy (wobbly) thighs and thick calves, just not very ladylike - I feel like a big old heifer pretending to be a dainty lady when I'm in a dress and heels.

I am OK in a wintery dress with thick opaques, but I think the christening will be August / September so black tights will look weird.

Any suggestions of alternatives for a fat-legged person?

Sounds fine to me. A christianing can be quite stressful, looking after a baby, and dealing with all the guests. Wear soemthing you are comfortable in and that is practical.

Thanks velvet - I do think that my chunky legs can cheapen a dress, even if it's a nice one, so I think I stand half a chance of looking a bit more classy if I keep them covered.

I will have a think of alternative tops so I can show off the trousers a bit more. Think I am just in the mode of hiding underneath things - had DD2 4mths ago and have pretty much failed to lose any weight and just feel a bit repulsed by my body to be honest!

Time to rid the house of chocolate and treats and start being firm with myself in a bid to shape up I think!
