Autumn colouring - should I ditch navy/black clothes

I am definitely autumn colouring (maybe warm, maybe deep, seems to change). I'm having a big clear out of clothes to get a streamlined wardrobe that suits me.
My trouble is that I have a lot of navy and black work clothes and it just seems wrong to get rid of them, even if I do look washed out wearing them.

What should I do? Bite the bullet and get rid? Or hang on to them and hope I can accessorise them to make them look ok? They are mostly tops, with 1-2 pairs of trousers in each.

Can you clarify what autumn colouring is?

I've got autumn colouring and could get away with black near my face in my twenties but realised about 5 years ago that it was doing me no favours so I gradually phased it out of my wardrobe. It took a couple of years to replace bottoms as black trousers used to be a bit of a work staple, but as I started to buy tops only in warm, soft colours they didn't really look very good with black bottoms.

Thank you Smile
My main colours are dark brown, aubergine, olive green, charcoal, with accent colours like red, purple, cream, coral and deep turquoise.

I also used to wear loads of black but feel like it really washes me out and navy is the same.

I have a couple of pairs of brown trousers and dark grey pair, so I won't be too short on clothes, it just seems to be such a waste!

I'd say keep them, but wear your best colours near your face.
It does seem a waste. I had mine done a long time ago, but still buy black and navy, mostly for trousers and skirts because the colours are so useful. They are also "sharp", whereas a lot of autumn colours can be sludgy.

Can you sell them or swap them with a friend?

Aque1ven · 29/04/2014 20:01

I'd keep them, like you say it's such a waste. I'm in much the same dilemma, all my work suits & smart coats are in black, some cost me a lot of £££ so it feels criminal to just get rid, but I'm a diagnosed Spring. I'm going to wear them till I feel like I've at least had some money's worth out of them, teaming them with right coloured tops or adding scarves or necklaces, then when they need replacing buy grey or navy( which Springs can wear)

Itscurtainsforyou · 29/04/2014 20:05

Thanks - so maybe keep the trousers and ditch the tops?

I have similar colouring and wear a lot of navy and black. I tend to use neutrals as a base, the add a jacket or scarf in a colour which suits me, such as orange, coral, tan or cream.
