Hi, We've been invited to an american feel wedding. There is no dress code given. I would really love to buy something fresh, but not so vibrant. I have no idea what to wear.I'm 5'5 and a bit curvy (size 8-10). I would like to wear something about knee length?
Pretty pretty please help :)
What do you think about these ones?

Is the wedding in America? Are there American guests or are either the bride or groom American? What time of day will it all happen?

Jasemine78 · 29/04/2014 15:46

The wedding is in America, in Los Angeles. The bride is american. My problem is I have never ever been to an american wedding. The budget is around £100 and only 3 weeks left.

The ceremony starts at 1. Has anyone ever been to a wedding like this?

So far, the waterfall style in coral looks like your best bet. LA has lovely weather most of the year so you would be fine in a light dress, with no jacket or cardigan needed, and a short and more tailored style would be better than a clingy maxi for daytime wear.

Many Americans love the 'British Wedding Hat' and may expect you as a British guest to wear a hat so maybe consider that? Or some sort of fascinator.

I've been to several American weddings. Usually in my experience the style of dress is specified only if it's an evening do in some venue that would have a formal feel like a hotel ballroom or a private club. For a daytime event, a smart dress, handbag, high heeled shoes/sandals for women and a suit and tie for men would be very acceptable.

Thank you. What do you think about a more solid cream color sequin dress with 'British Wedding Hat'. Would it be too much?

I think the sequin dress would be too much for a 1 pm wedding. What is the venue?

I am American and I have been to many weddings at different times of the day. I agree with what mathanxiety said. I would go for a solid color and really good accessories, but not much bling in the daytime.

SconeRhymesWithGone · 29/04/2014 16:31

Also I think that cream lace might be viewed as too bridal.

mathanxiety · 29/04/2014 16:41

I agree with Scone on all counts here.

I agree with you all, but i would like to pick something from this site as I heard a lot of good reviews about this brand. Any suggestions? And some help needed with the hat too. Wink

What about the makeup? Smile

This is the only one I would choose from that site. Clingy jersey dresses are not tailored enough to pass muster imo. Long dresses would look too beachy. The form fitting short jersey dresses all look too mummyish (in the ancient Egyptian sense) and too obviously designed to disguise curves. Plus they are jersey, and they are also plain, while those with a pattern are a bit loud.

With a dress in black with splashes of white, gold and straw colour you could opt for a wide brimmed straw hat in a light, natural straw colour with a black band or ribbon. Black high heeled sandals would go nicely too.

Light is brighter in LA, sunshine is the order of the day, and you may even manage to get a tan by the time you go to the wedding Smile. Be prepared to outline your eyes and use mascara. Try to have your hair look 'smart' -- no long fringe wisps falling over the face and no messy hairdo. Aim for something more crisp and finished.

Thank you for the advice, I just bought one. They were so nice a discount code just came out and i could save 20% so i can spend more on heels and i'm still in my budget.Smile I definitely recommend them. Now it's time to get the heels. Any idea?
Have you ever think about to work as a stylist?Smile

I hope your trip to LA will be lots of fun. For footwear, you could go with a peep toe or something strappy in a sandal. If the reception is at a venue where you can stroll around the grounds maybe take comfort into account? Drink plenty of water on the plane and when you land or you may find your feet swollen.
