Spots on bum?

Fairyloo · 28/04/2014 23:13

Ah sorry it feels like I have acne on my bum.

It's horrible? How can I get rid?

Please tell me I'm not the only one

Are you sure it's not bumps from ingrown hairs?

Fairyloo · 28/04/2014 23:55

Oh I don't know

They look like spots

it can be hormonal. I usually have it around the time of my period and I definitely don't have a hairy bum, I'm a bit of a hairless freak.
Aspirin mask can really help (google it - meant for face but can work wonders anywhere… i use a roll on one though meant for ingrown hairs that has aspirin in it)
Or cream with a high content of urea
And no synthetic knickers! cotton all the way or go commando
Mine is always worse in summer . Polyester trousers/ skirts for work made it worse on sweaty days

alltoomuchrightnow · 29/04/2014 00:43

I get a PFB roll on from eBay, been using for years. I get a lot less flare ups now. But definitely being hormonal on clammy days with synthetic clothing will bring out the dreaded spots.. and it can actually be painful to sit down! the PFB usually calms it overnight

alltoomuchrightnow · 29/04/2014 00:44

Wearing damp swimwear for hours is another way to get a flare up

Bluebell79 · 29/04/2014 09:44

I used to get this, do you sweat? The things I did were mostly wear cotton knickers, use a body scrub or those exfoliating gloves, stopped applying moisturiser there. Can be very painful.

Gatekeeper · 29/04/2014 10:05

i've had it since i was a teenager- didn't get spots anywhere else !

I notice that they go when I've taken a course on anti biotics so looks like it may be the condition MrsGarvey links to. Will try washing with hibiscrub to see what that does but am mostly resigned to it.

sebsmummy1 · 29/04/2014 10:06

I used to get this too and still get the odd one. Things that helped me was applying a really strong spot cream every day and rubbing it in.

Greenstone · 29/04/2014 10:44

I would say that it is folliculitis. I went to the GP about this last year and she said it is common enough. Do you sit at a desk all day? (I do.) Do you wear tight/skinny trousers or tights? (I do.) This can cause the hair follicles to get squished and infected. I did a 1-week course of antibiotics which cleared it up, but sadly it came straight back. You need to be really strict with letting air circulate and moisturising the area completely. I am pregnant now and still suffering :( and it will be a long time before I can take antibiotics again. I'm using tea tree oil moisturiser on the area at the moment, which helps a bit. Sorry that you have this too, it's a real pain.

Greenstone · 29/04/2014 10:46

No, it's not about having a hairy bum. Everyone has hair follicles and it's the follicles that get infected.

Betrayedbutsurvived · 29/04/2014 11:34

When I had this it turned out I was allergic to the cleaning product I was using on the loo seat.

I have had this forever! I am slim, not a hair bum and never get spots on my face. I dream of having a pretty bottom! It's so ugly and spotty! I use baby nappy cream sometimes and scrubs. It never goes away completely and it also has scars Hmm glad it's not just me then !

WildBill · 29/04/2014 19:46

Sea salt scrub
Cotton Pants
Talc

PeppermintInfusion · 29/04/2014 22:08

Mud mask, facial scrub and moisturiser, basically treat it like your face for a bit! Also cotton pants and talc when it's warm weather/you're exercising.

Gatekeeper · 30/04/2014 09:45

I went to the doc about this when I was younger and he asked me to take my trousers and knicks off and lie face donw on the couch whilst he went and got a female member of staff to 'chaperone'. There I was face down- he laid a red gingham tea towel over my arse- and brought back one of the junior receptionists who had been my sworn enemy at school.

Doc whips off the tea towel and exclaims about the spots whilst , sworn enemy looks like someone has given her fifty quid and I die a thousand deaths of mortification...

MaeMobley · 30/04/2014 12:12

Gatekeeper, is it really mean of me to laugh?

Gatekeeper · 30/04/2014 15:18

nope; I laugh myself in the telling off it Grin

Time is a great healer

MrsMarigold · 30/04/2014 15:36

Gatekeeper that is hilarious but awful for you.

I've had this too and tried Hibiscrub to no avail. Showering seems better than bathing though.

My GP is french, very glamourous and groomed. Always in head to toe Prada or Chanel and killer heels, I felt like a turd when I showed her my spotty botty.

Fairyloo · 30/04/2014 19:02

Glad it's not just me!

Face mask and talc it is then I will report back
