Need dress for Ascot?

Need a dress for Ascot. I am a size 10 on top and size 12 on the bottom. I normally go for shift dresses or prom style. Anyone seen any nice ones.

Hat? If so I'd strongly recommend deciding on that before the dress.

I much prefer the black dress. The red one is just a bit, well, frumpy and ordinary (in a red lacy way!).

Your figure sounds like you could wear any style. You've linked to 2 very different dresses though, so not sure what your style is? I could link to so many different dresses but what would you like to go in?

I saw that red dress in the flesh in M&S & thought it looked lovely on the hanger. I was surprised by how many clothes I actually liked in our local not very big Marks, but only one of the 8 things I tried fitted. I do have difficulty finding dresses to fit me, as I am flat chested with broad shoulders. What I really did like was this dress:

As I am blonde I tried it on in black and it was gorgeous. It so nearly fitted but my shoulders were too broad. It was amazingly well made with expensive looking fabric. If you suit shell pink try it on as it looks like a good Ascot dress to me (though take a warm wrap as it's thin), and should go with a lot of hats. If I were you I'd consider hiring a hat. I have hired from somewhere that is an association of farmers' wives that hire out fabulous hats for weddings and Ascot, and they adapt hats by re-trimming to match your outfit. I'll have a rummage and post a link.

I am a pear shape and normally shift and prom dresses suit my shape. I am about 5ft 5 and have black hair (short bob). I dont want to show to much flesh (as in my early forties). Any ideas?

I would not buy an Ascot dress from M&S unless you want to see 5 other women in the same outfit there.

MrsLettuce · 11/05/2014 20:19

Exactly Merguez. Ditto Cost, monsoon and Phase 8, unfortunately.

Love the ELiza J dress, BTW!

I thought the OP's dress from M&S was perfect for Ascot.
