Fushi Organic Rosehip Oil: How much do I use? And is it really as good as they say?

Hello Smile

So I've just purchased some and I have to say, it smells really weird, which I'd heard about. Kind of like nicotine or something. Anyway, I tried some on the back of my hand and that smell wears off pretty quickly, so it's not that bad I guess.

I'm surprised that it reads more like a recovery oil for scars, burns etc and not so much of a anti aging face oil, which is what I bought it for. So what's the difference between this and bio oil then?

At the moment I'm using Estee Lauder night recovery serum (the new improved one) I like it, but after the first couple of weeks, when I noticed quite a big improvement, the results have gone a bit.... 'meh', so I'm reluctant to re purchase, given the £48 price tag.

So, back to this stuff. How much do I put on? Can I use it to give myself a facial massage? Or should I just be putting it on and letting it sink in? Oh and can I use anything on top of this, or would that be too greasy? I heard that the best night skin care routine, was to cleanse, give yourself a facial massage with a face oil, but then take that off with a cloth, before applying your usual serums, moisturisers etc. I take it I shouldn't be taking this oil off though?......

Just looking for your experiences really.

Thanks

just rub a few drops in after cleansing, concentrate on the wrinkle prone areas and massage a few mins then leave.

Ta Eccles. Would you put anything over the top?

I have decent ish skin for my age I guess (very nearly 30), but I have noticed it looks a bit duller this last year and I can see my pores which I couldn't before. The worst bit for me though, are the nose to mouth lines. Mainly on one side, for some reason Hmm but they do seem to be getting deeper. Am I being completely unrealistic if I expected this oil to help with that?

Yes you are! Fillers is the only thing that will work. You will try everything else under the sun though, in the hope that you'll find a miracle. Unfortunately, you won't!! I bought this oil too cos I'm a sucker and live in eternal hope. It's ok. Nothing remarkable. My cosmetic doc pulled her face when I told her about it. I'll keep using it periodically but I'm also mixing it in with my body moisturiser, to give it a bit of a boost.

I must admit that I tried some on my hand in a shop and decided I was not putting that on my face, it smelt awful! Is that the same with all rosehip oils?

breakingtradition · 26/04/2014 16:51

Oh dear. Well I really hope you're all wrong. Grin Why does it have such good reviews though?

Dunno. Might be brilliant. I've not really given it chance to be fair. I hope I'm wrong tho!

Floisme · 26/04/2014 17:18

To be honest, I find pretty much any oil has a similar effect. If you massage in a few drops it can make your skin look smoother and any lines look fainter. If the light is right (i.e. poor), the effect can seem almost miraculous. It's all smoke and mirrors thought and the lines are back the next morning Grin

Pudding try Neal's Yard Rose Facial oil for an amazing smell. Rose rather than rosehip but feels and smells lovely.

Kundry · 26/04/2014 19:33

Bio-oil has good reviews and websites full of people saying it helped their scars/stretch marks - despite the fact it contains no active ingredients that could possibly have done anything to the scars.

Yet we all bought it (me included). And it smells nice. Even if it is just massively overpriced mineral oil.

Rosehip oil has lots of Vit C in it which has some evidence for being anti-ageing in skincare. So it could be doing something - but not getting rid of scarring.

Only thing which will work for scarring is intervention by a cosmetic dermatologist or a prescription for Retin-A.

Thanks Leviticus, will have a try next time I'm in shopping. Smile

Ok, so update.

I've been using it for the last 3 days and I have to say, so far, I've not really noticed a difference. I massage it in for a few minutes before bed, concentrating on my 'problem areas'. I was surprised by how much I needed. I thought a couple of drops would go a long way, but it disappears really quickly, so needed to add more.

Hopefully I'll see a difference soon Hmm

How's everyone else getting on with it?

Given up!!! Will just slap it on my legs from now on.

FaceDirectionOfTravel · 29/04/2014 18:44

I have bought it too. Four nights now, not much difference to my facial scars.

Am considering buying SHEALD which is for post surgical recovery. £43 a pop tho.

breakingtradition · 30/04/2014 11:44

I put on more than I have been putting on last night and I gave myself a longer massage. I could actually tell a difference this morning Smile I had a vat a few glasses of wine last night and usually my face would look quite puffy and my skin would look really dull, but this morning I looked surprisingly fresh.

So my theory is, it's more the massaging than that oil specifically. You couldn't do it comfortably without an oil though, so I'm happy to keep using it and at that price, I don't feel ripped off..........which is rare, cos I'm a bit of a beauty sucker Grin
