Foundation Recommendations for 40+

Inspired by a Red magazine article about make up for the over 40s I'm thinking that I should invest in a better foundation/BB/CC.

I'm 44 with pale-ish skin, I have a bit of an oily t-patch but then the rest of my skin is dry. I have tried various foundations but find them to be quite heavy and have tended to use Clinique tinted moisturiser or more recently L'oreal BB cream.

I have a child free weekend so I'm going to take myself to John Lewis and treat myself to something good, I'd love to hear your recommendations for what works for you.

YSL's Le Teint Touche Eclat? Not sure how it would work with your T-zone but luminous/light and easy to wear.

Or one of Bobbi Brown's?

Thanks Mrscocoa - coincidentally the article also recommended the YSL stuff so will definitely check that out and was also thinking of BB if only because a) I like their stuff and b) it isn't available at the airport on duty free so I won't feel like I'm wasting money by buying it today.

Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation. Completely amazing.

Boots Intelligent Colour. I am 55 and I found this foundation a revelation. It is very light and suits my combination skin beautifully. It is the only foundation I have tried that I can't "feel" on my skin. I love it.

Estee Lauder's Invisible Fluid might be worth a go? Am sure you could get a sample to try.

For a cheaper one, I really rate Soap and Glory. It's as good as the more expensive Clarins and Clinique ones I used to use, and iirc is only £11. I'm v pale and the shade is called, 'The Fairest of them All'.

Treat yourself to a consultation from someone whose make up you admire and see what they say! My Sister found Liz Earle to have honest consultants, and I've had a good chat with staff in Benefit and No7. Also picked up tips from Clinique, too, and I love bonus time deals.

A BB cream is great for brightening faces, but need to wear make up on your eyes, cheeks and lips so you don't look washed out.

Enjoy your pampering weekend!

I like Bobbi Browns skin spf15. Bobbi Brown is a good place to look because they have a huge colour range in several formulas and ime are very good at selecting the right colour for you.

I've tried Chanel and a few other high end brands but shades on offer were more limited and a good colour match not available.

I'm back and thanks for all the suggestions folks.

I went to the Bobbi Brown counter in the end and after having full make up done ended up buying the SPF15 moisturising foundation, a face brightener thing and a foundation brush. It was a bit of an expensive visit Grin and I hope the ongoing results will be worth it !
