Do you think I can wash these trousers?

Which are dry clean only. They are polyester, viscose and elastase (percentages shown on the link). They are called crepe, if this makes a difference?? I've just bought them without realising they were dry clean only, I love them, but know if I only dry clean them, they'll sit in the wardrobe forvever and never get worn. A dilemma indeed...

I have a pair of M&S Autograph ones which are 65% polyester, 32% viscose and 3% elastane (I've just checked) and they wash brilliantly. It says 40 gentle but I usually do them at 30 on a short wash. They dry really quickly too but yours might be a heavier weight fabric.

I would (on 30) but it depends how distraught you'd be if it all went tits up and you couldn't return them.

Witchywitch · 25/04/2014 14:19

Yes that's the problem, isn't it. I hate dry clean only clothes. Does anyone really take their clothes to the cleaners regularly?

Well on the link you posted op the care instructions say they are 'machine wash according to instructions on care label'... confusing.
I'd give it a go on a cold / 30 degree short wash as I have similar fbric trousers that I was and they're fine. When it goes tits up complain to ASOS about discrepancy between listing and label.

mousmous · 25/04/2014 14:26

I would wash them. if they don't come out well they are not worth keeping imo.
30 on easycare cycle, slow spin, line dry.

Cereal0ffender · 25/04/2014 14:30

I have just flung dh dry clean coat in the machine after it came back from drycleaners as mucky as it went. I reckon your trews will be fine

Witchywitch · 25/04/2014 14:33

Oh yes queen that's strange, the label in them def says dry clean. Stupid websites... I'm trying to think if I've washed dry clean only things before with success, I'm sure I must have. It's very confusing though, I ordered a diff pair of trousers too, same fabric composition (although feels very different) and they're wash at 40. I do wonder what makes something washable versus unwashable.

Yes cereal that's a good point, I remember getting a wool coat back from the cleaners as dirty as it went. Really what's the point.

Sorry, but I would expect a crepe fabric to shrink when washed. This would be very noticeable in the length of the legs.

I'd send them back, especially as there are loads of washable black pants in the shops.

QueenQueenie · 25/04/2014 15:20

I'd be bold and give it a go... I think lazy / cheap manufacturers often stick a dry clean only label on to avoid complaints.

Witchywitch · 25/04/2014 16:32

I'll consider and let you know how it goes! Thanks for the advice all
