Crap skin- spots AND wrinkles.

Please help me sort out my skincare, I'm struggling to find products that address my various issues!!
I don't have terrible skin, but I am a bit spot-prone, and often seem to breakout when using cleanser and moisturiser. As a result I seem to veer toward drying my skin out, and avoiding products, which then makes me look wrinkled and parched- and I still end up with spots anyway!!
I'm early 30s, and I know I need to be nurturing my skin before it's too late, but I seem to be in a grey area between anti-ageing and spot fighting ranges- v frustrating.
My current routine is- wash face with dove soap, followed by no. 7 moisturiser, for oily skin. If I'm having a breakout I don't even bother with the moisturiser, as I'm worried about clogging up more pores.
That's it! Blush
Help!!

Lurking with interest. I am plagued by spots, especially big red painful ones along the jawline that make me look like I've been bitten by a vampire.

Phonesex, i have the same at the moment. dry skin that's flaking everywhere else. but am getting over very bad virus atm.

these spots bloody hurt.

mylittlepeanutface · 26/04/2014 10:12

I have the same problem as you OP. I've just ordered a Clarisonic as a last resort. It has such good reviews so I'll see if that makes any difference.

I use The Body Shop vitamin e skincare which is good because it doesn't dry my skin out and it seems to work well.

Wrinkles and spots are a depressing combo! Grin

At 48 I'm in the same position with onset lines but hormonal breakout. I now use 3 products regularly;
Bioderma sensibio cleansing water.
Dermalogica special cleansing gel.
Avene mineral water spray.

These three products have balanced my skin - breakouts are minimal and clear quickly. My skin is mostly dewy comfortable and glowing.

I rarely use moisturiser, only on dryer areas if needed. I have tried many in all price ranges but olay sensitive is bland and does not irritate

MyLatest · 26/04/2014 21:45

Bill what is your routine with those products? How / when do you use them?

MyLatest · 28/04/2014 00:53

Ok inspired by thread I bought some Avene stuff but my face looks redder and feels a bit tingly. Is this normal or am I reacting to it? I got the gentle cleanser, water spray and calming moisturiser on 3 for 2 at Boots.

MyLatest · 28/04/2014 18:19

Bump. Hoping I am not allergic.

lurkingaround · 28/04/2014 19:02

It's unusual to get tingly with Av?ne products. Redder sounds like you are reacting a bit. What product is it?

Lots of these topical things will help, salicylic acid, glycolic acid, benzoyl peroxide etc. but lumpy red painful spots leaving scars needs tackling by a GP +/- dermatologist. Acne can be treated. It is a medical issue. Even if you only get one little scar every month, that's 60 scars in 5 years. If you're say, 30 years old, it's unlikely your acne will settle, it's here for the long haul. That's at least 10-20 more years of spots and scars. Easily prevented. It's a medical/health issue.

Thanks lurking. Skin is less red today so going to persist and see how I get on.

I have acne scars all over my face and wrinkles frim using harsh salicylic acid cleansing products. I use young blood mineral powder in ivory with a small brush (about a cm in diameter) and sweep on young blood mineral radiance powder with a kabuki brush to give my skin a healthy glow. The key with powder is:

A little goes a long way

The smaller the brush, the denser the coverage (good for scars)

Doesn't irritate skin

Takes about 5 seconds to do your make-up in the morning

Try it you won't regret it!

Oh yeah and lymecycline antibiotic for a couple of months is enough to clear my pizza face. The scars are the killer. I have loads now cos I couldn't take abx while pregnant and then nursing. As someone mentioned upthread scars are for life so get treatment now while you aren't up the duff and get it sorted!
