If you have really dry skin what foundation do you use?

I'm using clinique better than erm...something! Foundation. It's all cakey and powdery on my face.
I use Nivea express hydration primer

And bottom butter as a moisturiser

What now?

I'm fed up of this! :(

Have you tried applying your foundation with a real techniques stippling brush? Makes a huge difference.

I use Revlon colourstay,I actually prefer the oily skin version, weirdly I find it more moisturising.

I would ditch the bottom butter-it's really not a moisturiser as someone else said. Also, primers are better for (and aimed at usually, with some exceptions) oily skins. Dry skin will have no problem keeping foundation on. If you want to use a primer look for a hydrating one or one that's designed to add glow, like Laura Mercier's radiant one. You need to really up the moisture in your skin. Try Hydraluron under a rich moisturiser. Both Bobbi Brown and Laura Mercier do great foundations for dry skin. I love Giorgio Armani too (Luminous Silk).

I have naturally dry skin that is now post menopausal. I have tried everything over the years. Some things have worked to an extent but I have recently discovered Weleda Skin Food. It is fantastic. It made a huge difference to my skin just after one night. You need to warm a pea sized amount in your hands and then gently massage it in. I use this over Superdrug vitamin e oil and it has transformed my skin. It's only £6 on Amazon.
I use No7 long lasting foundation applied with a Real Techniques foundation brush and my skin glows. I have had so many compliments since using this routine.

I have dry skin and have used Revlon Colourstay for years, it's great.

However my skin has been bonkers dry recently and I was debating changing foundation as it was clinging to dry patches etc. However, I've swapped my moisturiser to Eucerin Dry Skin Replenishing Cream - about £8 I think, in Boots. My goodness, it is FABULOUS. My skin is really hydrated and glowy and the foundation is back to wonderfulness again!

So in a nutshell, I love Revlon Colourstay foundation for my dry skin but it's worth trying the Eucerine as it's been a real revelation for me!

Yes, funnily enough I picked up the oily version the other day to try it and it seems great! Do you find that the colours are a bit different between the two versions? I did a comparison and was surprised that the oily version was a lighter colour so decided to try that instead.

The Eucerin is amazing; I used to use Ponds dry skin version, but I completely adore the Eucerin and don't think I'll go back now. It goes on so nicely and really hydrates my skin. I was at my wits end and am so glad I picked it up to try!

The oily version does seen to run lighter, yes.

I usually wear Laura Mercier tinted moisturiser or Armani Shaping Cream foundation, the big difference I've found in terms of not going cakey is applying it with my fingers, rather than a brush or a sponge. I was also really disappointed with the Revlon Colorstay for dry skin - I looked like a walking corpse who'd been hit in the face with a board duster.

You need to sort your skin out.
No foundation will stop it being (really) dry.
Put the best foundation on dry skin and it will turn cakey and patchy and messy looking, even the cheapest bog standard foundation (in the correct shade) will look massively better than that when applied to skin that's in a good condition.

I'm not saying sorting your skin out is easy btw, just that your problems don't stem from the foundation so you need a different approach.

Get thee a tub of Astral or a tin of blue nivea for starters.

I have dry skin but since going back to basics and using those, it's much better.

I have tried every foundation going, and the best IMO are the creamy ones in dippy pots. My current favourite is the Max Factor Whipped Cream one. It's lovely.

I find Clinique foundations very harsh and drying (oil free of course) and I have a bottle of Dior Forever which is nice, but again drying. I've run out of Whipped Cream so am currently mixing the Dior with Rimmel Wake Up and it's just about right.

I don't agree entirely with sorting your skin out and foundation will be fine. I'm always disappointed at how cakey foundations are no matter how good your skin is or how well you apply it.

Kelly/Dame: interestingly I asked a Clinique counter woman about this recently as have had similar problems (and tried a few different foundations). She also recommended sorting out the skin first (moisturise and exfoliate) and didn't hold much store by primers for dry skin.

I don't get on with any primers except for Lanacane anti chaff gel which is the same as the Smashbox one.

Ooh I am thirding the YSL. if you go to the counter they will give you a decent sample - enough for a few days.
