Clothing with an age limit

At what age does it stop being acceptable to wear shorts with tights? Or leggings? Or converse? Is there any clothing with an age limit?

MsAspreyDiamonds I totally agree that it's not a good look on anyone of any age or any size. Call me a traditionalist but I think underwear belongs under your clothes. The clue is in the name. However in your first post you implied thatthe woman's age was the most objectionable thing for you. I just wondered why?

TondelayoSchwarzkopf · 25/04/2014 13:27

I hope when I'm 60 I shall be wearing a bright pink bra and a see through blouse. I'd rather be Dorian Green than Anne Widdicombe.

TheBookofRuth · 25/04/2014 14:38

I saw an older woman (I'd guess 70s) in a crop top with a bare midriff. She had the figure for it - very slim and toned - but it still looked wrong, and I couldn't tell you why.

Floisme · 25/04/2014 14:42

But so what? Why does it bother people?

TheBookofRuth · 25/04/2014 14:45

Well it didn't really. I just noticed it, that's all, and was a bit surprised to find I didn't think it looked "right" even though there was nothing wrong with her figure and on a younger woman I'd have felt nothing but a pang of jealousy.

Floisme · 25/04/2014 14:50

Ok but maybe that is your problem, not hers?

TheBookofRuth · 25/04/2014 14:57

Didn't say it wasn't. It's not like I ran up to her shouting "cover yerself up you aged hoor!" though.

Floisme · 25/04/2014 15:01

I'm sure you didn't Grin But you noticed her, didn't you? How many other 70-something women did you walk past that day without even seeing? Maybe that woman prefers disapproval to being invisible?

LoveVintage · 25/04/2014 15:09

I think it is definitely the case that if it suits you and you can carry it off, you can wear any look at any age.

I am 50, and do remember going through a stage, maybe when I hit 40, of thinking I was too old to wear above-knee skirts and the like. I think that is more to do with society's "conditioning" than anything else. I now wear what I like and think I suit my figure and don't particularly care what anyone else thinks.

TheBookofRuth · 25/04/2014 15:10

That's a very good point!

TheBookofRuth · 25/04/2014 15:10

That was aimed at Floisme.

Thanks, TheBookofRuth Smile
This is what I hate to see older women wearing: baggy, oversized, ill-fitting clothes, normally in dark or neutral colours, that leave you with no shape and make you look twice the size you really are; clothes that are designed to make you disappear. Give me shorts, crop tops or sheer blouses any day.
