Does anyone ever think make up can be ageing?

I live make up and rarely go without. All my life I've tended to just use a tanning powder and eye make up but as I'm getting older and recently had an attack of perioral dermatitis, I've been experimenting with foundation.
I thought I quite liked it until today I didn't have time and when I caught my reflection I thought I looked younger and fresher than with foundation.
I've tried minera powder, Clinique redness and various bb/cc creams, am I using the wrong ones?
I'm 46 with a bit of redness and slight eye bags.

It really really depends on the foundation and other products. If you look powdery it will definitely age you.

You need a really good foundation like Diorskin Nude, Chanel is also very good but it's more yellowy so it doesn't suit all skin tones.

You need a good primer, I use Clarins but there are many other good ones around. This is vital as it stops the foundation from drying out and makes it go on more evenly.

And then only a very light powder such as Dior or Chanel Poudre Universelle. if you apply it lightly you do not appear to be wearing powder.

I use a Nars blusher to make myself look fresh and healthy without appearing to be wearing any.

Well you only have to look at various z list slebs - the absolute horror of comedy brows, yellow/orange tan (very ageing), heavily pencilled lips etc to see it can be ageing if not applied with a light hand and far too much put on. It SHOULD improve the look of your skin, making it look more luminous, covering any zits, broken veins etc.

I have found in the past year I've had to tone it down a lot (35)

I wear max factor miracle touch all in one, touch of eyeliner ( really slight line)

I wear a light bronzer and lipgloss

Also mascara and HD brow definer

That's it. I feel much better. I tried a full face the day - full foundation, powder etc Looked awful.

Your skin needs to be really well moisturised and a good primer like clarins beauty flash balm is helpful. Tinted moisturiser is good because it's not powdery (I use laura mercier) and it doesn't look cakey. I've just discovered dior skin nude and I really like it but only if I use a little bit as it's so highly pigmented. Too much looks cakey.

visible makeup is ageing. Why wear makeup that can't be seen?

wear it if you want, but don't be fooled that it improves anything.

Oh bloody Nora, SpecialSubject. That's not ALL it's about! I used to work in a chemo ward. The ladies in there would often get all excited about showing off a new lippy or wig. We used to have a beautician visit the ward to do facials/makeup/nails. It makes a lot of people feel better. I'm all for that. Perhaps I'm fooling myself but, I look easily 15 years younger than my grandma, when she was my age .... early 50's, and I'm very happy about that!
