Any dressmakers/seamstresses out there?

Just after some advice on a broken zip...found dress of my dreams reduced in TK Maxx today. Snapped it up without trying-on but have got it home and found the zip is broken. It's lost a couple of teeth at the bottom on one side. I've played around and have managed to get it to fasten again. So it's functioning but prone to splitting open. Just wondering if there is a way I can secure it at the bottom?

Think it may be tricky to replace as it's set on the outside ifyswim?

Any advice would be really appreciated.

With the zip fastened, hand sew a few stitches across the teeth of the zip just above where it is broken. The zip can't then go past the stitches. If you can stitch it tightly and find an exact colour match thread the stitches should be invisible.

Hi

Im a seamstress, To be honest id hope someone would pay the £5 to replce the zip in a dress, rather than trying to fix it myself and worring if it will pop open at any given moment.

Honestly just have the zip replaced it wont cost that much.

Mrpickles, £5 for replacing a zip, where do you live and do you want more custom? Easter Grin

I'd do what glasses says. It's worked for me countless times.

It really will be easy to replace (get a seamstress if not confident - I can recommend a fab one in Devon if you happen to live down here!), but failing that sewing above the damaged bit as a pp said will work.

Thanks all - much appreciated. Am a long way from Devon Hopefully but will see what local seamstress says. Zip is set outside as a feature of the garment so am just wondering if this affects how replaceable it will be. Good to know DIY stitching is also an option (and has stopped me reaching for the superglue and having (another) ill fated moment of madness).
