dressing my (female) OH for a wedding

My lovely OH hates shopping. Hates dresses, girly clothes etc etc. Lives in jeans, t-shirts and shirts.
We have a wedding abroad in July and she's already quietly stressing about what to wear.
Her default setting for smart occasions is black trousers or suit and a white shirt.
She's tall, big boobs, size 16-18, curvy, but hates her tummy.
Can you help me come up with a stylish outfit that isn't a dress or skirt that is suitable for a warm (HOT?) climate please? She is brunette and looks great in bright colours.
I'm thinking wide leg trousers with a camisole and a patterned shirt over the top like a jacket? ALL ideas and links most gratefully received!!!
Shoe ideas too! She lives in Converse or trainer or wears plain black boots.

This is a challenge, as it's the opposite of what I wear (dresses and skirts!). But - have a look on the Toast website. There is a lovely, loose tunic top called Mae - how about that over a pair of black or white trousers? Cool, elegant but not girly. And I think it would be less fussy than a camisole with a shirt over. Also in the top section, there is one called Adwoa (or similar) - lovely loose silk tunic top, again would look good over trousers. They have sold out of size 16, but may be worth trying a Toast shop if there us one near you, if you like it of course.

I do think a shirt over a camisole might look quite old fashioned, and I think it's much easier in hot weather to just have one layer to think about.

How about a jumpsuit with a kimono on the top?

HavantGuard · 20/04/2014 12:07

The pictures are just to illustrate shapes, not suggestions, as they are eye wateringly pricey!

I'd go for wide legs like this rather than excessively full ones. The tucked in open necked shirt looks good but as you've said she is self conscious of her tummy, maybe more this kind of thing on top

www.net-a-porter.com/product/408781/Alexander_McQueen/crepe-blazer or a cotton blazer with a silk tshirt to keep cool.

This is an amazing year for flat shoes so I'm sure she'll find some great ones that will be just as comfy as converse but slightly more weddingy. If they're not too warn there are loafers in all kinds of colours and finishes in the shops ATM.

Some wide leg trousers in pale grey? Possibly linen although they crease. With a plain possibly linen shirt, sleeves slighty rolled up? A good fitting bra would make her feel better about her tummy. Birkinstocks are in this summer if everything else is too girly.

The camisole suggestion is good, but maybe too revealing for her? have seen some sleeveless shirts in next. Could possibly add a plain turquoise scarf? Extra grooming for hair, nails? Little bit of makeup tinted moisturiser? Or is that all too much?

Bluebell79 · 20/04/2014 15:27

What about some patterned trousers? Not floral maybe a navy pattern? And a sleeveless shirt? Would a maxi dress be too much? Even if it wasn't too girlie patterned?

Artandco · 20/04/2014 15:33

I would go for white linen trousers and a smart lightweight tunic maybe in navy? Flat ballet pumps in white or navy

Hair length? If long a French plait to the side

Blueuggboots · 20/04/2014 15:35

Thanks for your advice so far. Smile
Maxi dress utterly out of the question!!
Yes, am also working on bra fitting! Think she's scared to do bra intervention as she may end up the same size as Dolly Parton!! Grin

No make up, no nail varnish, no jewellery!!! She hates adornments!!
See why I'm struggling? Shock

Have you looked on Pinterest? Suit trousers, with shirt, rolled up sleeves and a waistcoat in a pale colour but not white or cream looks good. With loafers or canvas shoes, bit like toms? I think the outfit you describe with black trousers will be what she's most comfortable in so can't you just buy that in a lighter colour? I'm thinking grey wouldn't be too far out of her comfort zone.

SanityClause · 20/04/2014 15:40

Would she wear shoes like these?

ImAThrillseekerBunny · 20/04/2014 15:43

John Lewis personal shopper? They'll do a gentle bra intervention as well, and find her a pair of shoes - I agree that a pair of coloured loafers should be fine.

cathyandclaire · 20/04/2014 15:44

Is this too obvious for a wedding? With ? metallic converse and a bright cami, they also have similar in a silvery grey :)

I'd avoid linen - it looks soc crumpled, so quickly.

Might something like these work?

Cocolepew · 20/04/2014 15:48

Sainsbury's have linen trousers which are a tailored trouser rather than loose and wide legged . Navy in them and ballet pumps would look nice.

Bluebell79 · 20/04/2014 15:52

Metallic or white converse, why didn't I think of that.

Cocolepew · 20/04/2014 15:54

What about a top this shape?

Blueuggboots · 20/04/2014 16:01

Thank you SO much for your thoughts.
She has hair that is collar length, not long enough to go up.

Gap navy trousers with a nice top and some loafers, maybe?
