Please help me find a "Not a dress" outfit for a wedding..or ideas please..

I have wedding-outfit dresses galore in my wardrobe. Some (not many) have worked. Mostly not. I have generally felt a bit "meh" on the day. Mostly have felt too "dressy/dressed up". Often a bit frumpy. Always hating the required shoes to go with the dress. And I now have another family wedding to go to in August. I don't want another dress. I don't want to wear any I have again. (Aso I have put on a dress size due to health problems...I may lose some in time but it is unlikely).

So please, suggestions. Something a bit different - but not really fashionable/trendy. I really am not that way wired. Classic with a twist maybe. Elegant. Stylish. A bit of something funky - but not all funky Iyswim. I am not sure if I am making sense....

So about me
*Size 12
*Broad Shoulders and big norks (32ff/g)
*Not much of a waist at the moment - may improve a bit but never been really wasp-waisted
*Hips/Bum OK. Never worried about it being overly large down there in proportion to the rest of me.
*Thighs OK.

*Legs - probably could be described as "shapely" - big calf muscles and slender ankles. I hate showing them off in dresses though

Colouring. Pale, slightly freckly skin. Blue eyes, brown curly hair in shortish bob.

Colours that suit me coral (good atm I know) navy, creams. I look dead in black. Or silver. Seriously dead. Corpse like an extra in Silent Witness.

So ladies....can you suggest something....that will not make me to depressed about my more flabby than normal body. Not make me look dead. And make me feel special but not over smart.

Hmm I prefer the Orange trousers. I think they are more flattering.

I am on my phone though so can only see a tiny version of the pic. Basically I shouldn't have commented...

its lovely go withthe orange trousers . white is nice for a summer picnic o rbarbie , but just not different enough for a wedding..

you need something like these slingbacks

SinglePringle · 22/04/2014 20:51

Honestly? I don't think it's smart enough for a wedding / at least, not without a jacket. And it would have to be the orange trousers - smarter and better fit. But truthfully, it looks a bit too much like a work outfit for me.

Laska42 · 22/04/2014 21:18

Another idea here?

MyFirstName · 22/04/2014 23:45

Both trousers going back. I am not keen on the orange colour..though the cut is lovely. The cream ones are a great colour match but the cut just isn't right for me. Next size up wayyy too big.

As a wedding outfit it still has potential though. Our family weddings, due to the mix of people, some of whom are quite bohemian, tend to be fairly relaxed outfit wise. The smart dress/heels/matching jacket is only for the older generation.

So I think I am definitely keeping the top. Not just for/because of the wedding...but as it is beautiful..and flattering and rather versatile. Still a potential for the wedding...and although I hope to have lost a bit of weight by the summer it hides the back fat Grin. I can closer to the time grab some suitable cream trousers...

So still on the hunt possible for the outfit.

Laska that is lovely but too strong a blue for me.

That top really suits you, MyFirstName (from the little we can see of you in the photos). How about some wide-leg pants? They might look a bit "dressier" than tighter pants.

MyFirstName · 23/04/2014 15:51

I had these Coast ones in the wardrobe from a few years back. Not quite the right colour so still would need to shop for others but I think it gives a smarter look...would need less twee shoes though...

I was thinking even wider, something like this

MyFirstName · 23/04/2014 21:57

Sailor-y 1940s-esque..? Mmmm. liking that idea.

I prefer the darker trousers Grin Sorry.

I think it will be great for a wedding but would definitely wear quite a lot of jewellery with it, with some sort of jewelled clip in my hair.

MerryMarigold · 23/04/2014 22:22

Prefer style of orange trousers and colour of cream ones. Cream ones look a bit tight imvho. Orange look a perfect fit. Is there a cream suit you could get which then solves the jacket problem?
