Bra Intervention: help needed - Which size?

WhatDoYouKnow · 14/04/2014 10:03

Need to take 12y out shopping for new bras as her current ones are getting a bit small, and they were fitted using the old method anyway, so definitely not right.

Going shopping this afternoon, so thought I would check here first.

Measured her this morning and she is:

under chest - 28"
across chest - 34"

What size will that make her and the others to try?

Also best high street places to try for nice pre teen style bras - would ideally prefer non wired - in the smaller band width?

Whilst we are at it, would would this be too:

32" band
38.5" across

Thank you

She needs to try a 28E and similar sizes. Debenhams, JL, HoF are your best bet. Ideally Bravissimo if there's one near you. None of the high St fashion stores (eg New Look) stock anything under a 32 band). Under wired are fine as long as they fit properly.

The other measurements suggest a 32FF/G.

Can try JL in town, then head to local shopping centre for Debenhams and HOF.

No local Bravissimo.

By High Street I meant places like above really, rather than fashion brands tbh - didn't know they sold them much tbh.

Underwired just seems more appropriate/comfortable for a just 12y for some reason.

Oh - and thank you.

Would the second measurements not suggest a 32f?

SorrelForbes · 14/04/2014 15:50

Sorry yes, 32E/F! Brain wasn't in gear!

WhatDoYouKnow · 14/04/2014 17:23

Thanks.

Went shopping. There were very few 28s to try on at all and none in the right cup sizes. Tried 30DD but the cups were too large. The band was tight - know it is supposed to be. Don't think a 28 would have gone round to be honest.

Ended up with 30D which seems to fit nicely. Snug round bad, not too wide, and fits in the middle at front too. Cups filled properly and nothign escaping and not gaping either.

That doesn't sound unreasonable - don't suppose the very few 28s you found were Debenhams own brand?

WhatDoYouKnow · 14/04/2014 20:12

The only 28s were Debenhams yes - but none in the higher cup sizes. The band size was nowhere near big enough though.

The Debenhams own brand bras run notoriously tight in the band (except when they don't, because in my experience they are also notoriously unreliably sized). So I wouldn't discount the idea of 28 being the right size for her in general, it's just that Debenhams 28's are ridiculously tiny.

StatisticallyChallenged · 14/04/2014 20:24

As Naoko says, the debenhams gorgeous range are very small in the band, in those a 30D would probably be an entirely appropriate size. If she has an opportunity to try brands like Freya, Cleo, Curvy Kate then I would suggest trying a 28 in those.

I'm a very definite 30, if I waiver at all it's to a 28. My one and only debenhams bra is a 32.
