Alternative everyday trousers to jeans

I wear jeans literally all the time (except at work), just the one dark pair from White Stuff (which I do wash!). Can anyone suggest some other everyday trousers to go with lots of tops? I'm so bored of looking the same all the time! I also always wear Converse with them, so alternative comfy everyday shoe recommendations would be appreciated too! I look very young for my age, which I don't like, so something 'grown up' (I'm 32!) would be good! I don't think the jeans & Converse combo does me any favours. I'm of petite frame, size 8. Many thanks.

I also wear Converse (43).

NuzzleandScratch · 14/04/2014 18:57

Like the sound of the skinny chinos. Our Sainsbury's has a big clothing dept, I obviously need to have a look! I'm not sure I can claim my calves are athletic, but they are on the bigger side, a legacy from my years of ballet I think. Rather annoying when you want to buy long boots!

Are Converse a Mumsnet 'thing'?! One thing that annoys me with them is I find they look tatty rather quickly, especially the white bit at the front, on top of the toes.

Clarks have some comfy flats in their unstructured range at the moment

Llareggub · 14/04/2014 19:01

I stick my converse in the washing machine.

NuzzleandScratch · 14/04/2014 19:12

Thanks petals, I'll have a look.

I'm not a fan of Converse but for casual, comfy shoes I love Clarks desert boots or some proper old school Adidas Gazelles Smile

I'd second Uniqlo legging trousers, they're great.

frankietwospots · 14/04/2014 21:23

The Kurt Geiger leopard slip on trainers that I linked to are super comfy and just for ref, I am 42. I wear them with my Gap skinny khakis all the time at the moment. I have Converse too but agree that they can look tatty quite quickly. I tend to clean them with baby wipes if I've been down the canal path or something.

I know what you mean about the camel toe risk with the Uniqlo leggings!

NuzzleandScratch · 14/04/2014 22:38

The slip on trainers look great, but I think I'd need to try a pair to see if they suit me. I got vouchers for Jigsaw for Mother's Day, and they do something similar, so might take a look there.

Damn phone

Converse not a mumsnet thing for me I was wearing them before Mumsnet (and the Internet? ) were even a twinkle in anyone's eye. I had to go to a shop on Kensington High Street to by them...15/20 years later that pair are STILL wearable! !

My grumpy painful feet like them and, yes, mine too have been in the washing machine.

NuzzleandScratch · 15/04/2014 08:06

Thanks BlueSky, I knew they'd been around for a while, just thought they might have become popular among mumsnetters! I have washed mine in the machine before, but I don't find the rubber bits come up very clean.

Converse. Mum shoes

wickedfairy · 15/04/2014 08:52

I love those Gap skinny chinos! I have 33-34" legs - the 32 will prob too short, won't they? Grrr... Maybe ok for summer.

What us the sizing like please? I am a 12... Thanks

Legologgo · 15/04/2014 09:08

Big

burnishedsilver · 15/04/2014 09:12

Clarks freckle face, which they now seem to be calling freckle ice, are ballet shaped but feel like walking on air.

treaclesoda · 15/04/2014 09:16

Is mum shoes an insult? I am a mum therefore by definition all my shoes are mum shoes surely? Grin

treaclesoda · 15/04/2014 09:19

I know I'm going to be laughed off the thread but for comfy flats, I have a pair of sort of ballet pump type things from Hush Puppies, and they are so comfortable it's like walking round barefoot. They don't have the big ugly sole that most Hush Puppies do, so they look pretty inoffensive.

I'm going to be excommunicated for suggesting Hush Puppies aren't I?

Legologgo · 15/04/2014 09:27

Yup. Insult.

Dumpylump · 15/04/2014 09:29

It's ok treaclesoda I have a pair too. These ones! I wear them with my jeans and they are much comfiest than any of my other ballet flat type shoes.

I think lego sneaked in whole his mum was away from the computer...ignore,
the kids are struggling with 2 weeks off Grin

I have Hush Puppy boots I don't think they are any less "cool" than Clarks.

NuzzleandScratch · 15/04/2014 21:50

Like the sound of Hush Puppy flats, I'm not proud! Will check out the Clarks ones too, thanks for the recommendations.

@wickedfairy - the sizing of the Gap chinos is generous. I'm usually an 8 and got a UK size 6. Weirdly, the khaki colour are more generous than the navy. Length wise, they are not bad (I usually wear 32") but I turn them up one for an 'on the ankle' look.

Legologgo · 15/04/2014 22:06

Lol. If only you knew
