What can I wear on my holidays?

I hate summer clothes with a passion. I have booked a villa for May half term and I have nothing to wear.

I shall mostly be poolside or on the beach, with the odd meal out. I will definitely tramp around a few villages.

I have never, ever got summer dressing right. Please help me!

I am stupidly pale and freckly and burn to a frizz. I have massive boobs, a hated tum and I was a size 14 until I fell off the diet wagon and my clothes feel a bit tight.

I have never worn a bikini in my life.

get a good cozzie with tummy control. M&S do them or you'll find lots on the Figleaves website.

linen draw string trousers are a good call, maybe even a summer cotton jump suit? will be loose fitting on boobs and a draw string with bloused over top half will cover tum.

A larger size that fits will always be more flattering/slimming than a tight smaller size. so if you need to buy a few bit in size 16 then do so.

then what about a couple of maxi style dresses for nights out? Monsoon can usually be relied on for these

Some slouchy lux joggers and a cami or vest?
Linen trousers?
Rolled up/cropped jeans and a sleeveless shirt/blouse?
A pretty sundress? Fit and flare/skater dresses are massively forgiving.
And make sure you wear at least factor 50 sunscreen!

Some good ideas here to get me going. I love the idea of a summer jump suit.

As the factor 50, I need that in this country!

Just wear a bikini, that's my advice. I am similarly sized and pale, but have learned that trying to hide behind support costumes and cover ups just makes you feel fat and horrid AND makes other people think you must be too. Strangely, M & Co usually has some attractive yet suitably supportive swimwear for holidays.

Relax and enjoy yourself. Slap on the sunblock and try to find a couple of pretty dresses you can pull on and wear over below knee leggings if self conscious. Or there are lots of midi dresses around; try asos or boohoo for cheap, holiday friendly versions it won't matter if you get suncream on.

Marian, thank you for that bikini link! Watched the video and giggled to myself. Lovely bikini though. I needed a giggle. Long day!

Linen is definitely your friend. Think about oversized men's linen shirts that will come almost to your knees with cute sandals or flipflops for wafting around the villa - you'll feel as though you're in beachwear without having to show anything. Add some cheap-as-chips bangles from Accessorize and a hat that you feel comfortable in (either a big floppy one or a panama type).
Tramping around villages: linen drawstring trousers, definitely - but go and try some shorts on - you may be pleasantly surprised. Especially worn with aforementioned oversized linen shirts.
Yes to maxi dresses for evening; or you might think about a prom style, fifties-ish dress: accentuates the waist and gives you some shape. Maxi dresses can be a little difficult with norks as they hang off them.

Try the 30 Day shred programne by Jillian Michaels to tone up & get bikini ready.

I'm pale and burn easily.
Start the morning with a good high factor sun block, cover yourself while naked, you'll miss bits and burn if you're wearing clothes.

I tend to wear tops with shoulders and not vest/boob tubes. Loose tops are good with wide necks.
I love maxi skirts with wide elasticated waists, great for pulling up and covering you while you change on the beach.

Leather sandals, plastic ones will stick to your feet and give you blisters.

Llareggub · 12/04/2014 21:55

Yes I'm ready for scary shred. In my fitter days I didn't find it too bad but I just know it's going to hurt this time.

I bought a maxi dress today as a quick cover up. I had a quick look at jumpsuits but then my sons went a bit stir crazy...

If it helps I am on day 18 of the shred and have lost 6lbs. I only had 12 to lose, so it works fast.

Another pale skinned redhead here. Since I started using P20 (topped with factor 50 on my chest area), I have never burned.

As far as clothes go, I like floaty hippyish midi or maxi length dresses as they always make me feel a bit glam and cover a multitude of sins.

Llareggub · 12/04/2014 22:05

Wow, well done! Have you been doing it everyday?

I'm a 16 / 36F and hate the dreaded beach ware shopping trip! but yesterday was pleasantly surprised in Next and came away with this tankini top in size 18 www.next.co.uk/x534222s1 with these bottoms in size 16www.next.co.uk/x532214s1
Also got a blue and a red tunic to wear as a cover up or with cropped leggings or linen shorts www.next.co.uk/g3996s1
Good luck and have a lovely hol!
