Is White Stuff worth the price?

I'm looking for good quality basics, there have been a couple helpful threads recently on this topic.... Checking out White Stuff now and I do like a lot of the styles but omg £17.50 for a T-shirt? www.whitestuff.com/mobile/ss-lana-tee-prod407851_neutral/

Are the clothes really good quality or is one just paying for the brand name?

I am quite hard on my clothes too so I need basics that will stand up to lots of wear and don't need to be mollycoddled every time they need a wash.

The basic jersey stuff is thin and horrid. I like some of the prints, that is mostly all I will buy from them.

They use a really annoying courier too. DX, who require a signature, won't let you collect from depots, can't tell you what time of day they are coming and if someone else signs for you they have to prove their ID and yours! I am currently waiting for a redelivery attempt. Bet it comes when I have to go and get ds from school.

Some of their stuff is worth the money - dresses (for the most part), tops rather than t shirts. Their basics are a bit hit and miss, great colours/patterns but the quality of the material varies greatly, some is good quality and some is thin.

As pp have mentioned, their courier is a nightmare so best to visit in store if you have one nearby and definitely wait until the sale. The season's stuff seems to go into sale quite quickly (like Boden, fat face, etc) and it is irritating to have forked out full price a few weeks before.

Glad I asked, you two have put me right off them Smile

I am not in the UK and can only shop online so unfortunately can't go and look for myself.

Also, the prices on their website are fake; the real prices are 80% of that because they distribute "20% off" codes like confetti. White Stuff is like GAP and Boden, nobody ever pays full price unless they are so rich that they are happy to pay an extra tenner rather than do a quick google.

I love their cotton blouses/tops which wash really well. If I really love one then I will pay full price as IME things often sell out. If you sign up to their email you will be sent discount codes. John Lewis and HOF also stock some WS so you may find their delivery/returns better.

Ok parcel has arrived. It was the Libby jersey blazer. Very thin and floppy, not at all structured and the spotty trim on stripey body was rather frumpy. going back, certainly not worth £45!

PeppermintInfusion · 11/04/2014 15:54

I was in the local shop on my lunch break today and I think the problem is that a lot of the stuff that looks stylish online is actually a bit frumpy when you see it IRL as it's obviously been pinned, etc on the models. It's in the cut of a slightly too high neckline or the flare of the skirt etc.
bizarrely virtually everything in the store ATM appeared to be variations on shades of blue and their prices have definitely go up for the spring stuff!

Saying that I used to buy a lot from there

Nocomet · 11/04/2014 15:57

Very flimsy compared to the Fat Face and SeaSalt stuff I have.

mumblechum1 · 11/04/2014 16:00

Only ever bought one cardi from them. Wore maybe 4 or 5 times before it was so pilled and bobbly it's unwearable. Had better quality stuff from primary tbh

alltoomuchrightnow · 11/04/2014 16:10

worked in a charity shop where we got a lot of it in
Comfy casual sometimes a bit flimsy . often slightly frumpy. A bit Fat Face IMHO
wears out and bobbles quickly

alltoomuchrightnow · 11/04/2014 16:10

ok dresses but t-shirty fabric eg jersey wears out v quick

mejon · 11/04/2014 16:14

I have a couple of tunic type things with ridiculously huge necklines on them so you're constantly hoiking the shoulders up or exposing your bra straps. I ordered what I thought was a heavyweight jersey top a few weeks ago. When it arrived it was very thin and looked like it'd shrink and twist once washed. For £30 I expected more so it went back. Luckily we have an independent store locally that stocks quite a bit of WS stuff so at least I can see things I fancy in the flesh before taking the plunge. I've never had a problem with delivery though as it usually comes via Royal Mail (very much out in the sticks) and often enough is delivered next day.

I like the dresses and the scarves, have had a lot of wear from them. Oh, also pj bottoms and warm hoodie that I got as a present are great. Better to pay sale prices though. I like h and m for basics. Cheap and have worn well for price.

MedusaIsHavingaBadHairday · 11/04/2014 18:38

I have had quite a few bits bought for me (as family know I like Fatface and it's similar) I have taken back two woollen tunics as though they were washed as per instructions they still shrank badly. I would only buy in the sales tbh and even then I find Fatface much better value.. my FF stuff lasts forever!
