I dress smartly for work - suit etc so that's good.
however I've known for ages my hair isn't good. Basically think short back and sides...
Anyway been to a new salon today hairdresser was good but made me feel a bit crap. probably because what she said is true.
She said it was much too short. True. She said it needed to soften. True. Look more feminine. Ouch. But true. Less muffin top. Ouch.
So whilst she came up with a plan for it and if it goes right I think it will look pretty decent in about six months or so feel a bit uncomfortable I've been wandering around looking rubbish for the last few months.
Anyway as part of the general improvement plan - I don't wear make up but wondering if I should for work etc. Wondering how many people do actually wear make up for work or go natural?

I always wear light make up. I think you should go to Debenhams or similar and go to a counter and explain you need some help. A previously non-make up wearing friend of mine did this and they did a lovely job, she looked all 'glowy' and healthy but not overdone.

Agree- decent eyebrows can life your entire look.

A bit of mascara and blush is an easy everyday fix.

I always feel more 'put together' with lipstick on... Even in a masculine suit it feminises the look

I wear it for work as I do a public facing roll. It's a bit like my armour Grin

Cocolepew · 10/04/2014 22:33

Wear it how you like it, not what a stranger says.

If you want to grow it, that's fine. I have very short hair and I'm gorgeous Grin

I agree but I can see what she is saying. Sometimes you have to be honest with yourself.

I think I will have some make up consultations see what I like and don't like and what works best. May be pleasantly surprised.

Your hairdresser sounds a bit harsh, but sometimes it's quite nice when someone gives an opinion rather than just doing what you want. My hair's been short for a few years but I fancy a change so I'm growing it under supervision.
Personally I think if you like how you look without make up, I'd stick with that, but, you could, just for fun, have a go with some. As has been suggested you could have a makeover at a make up counter, to see what you think. A natural look to enhance your features would probably work well.

It won't take 6 months for it to look "more feminine", grow the top out and have a sweeping fringe, then take it from there Smile

I think short hair needs a bit of make up, I absolutely love short hair, I crave it, you can look so effortlessly cool with short hair....not too much make up, just lips and cheeks is often enough to polish it off.

burnishedsilver · 11/04/2014 09:12

I dont have a heavy hand with the make up but I rarely leave the house without it. I cant imagine going to work without it. I'd feel naked. Very short hair, with a suit and no make up sounds quite severe tbh.

Yes I think something like the pics above is what we will be aiming for. I felt a bit rubbish this morning but sometimes you have to be told. Hm.
Onwards and upwards.
Going to check out some beauty counters tomorrow!
Thank you for all your feedback.
